She slowly turned to face me. Her cheeks were crimson in color, but her smile lit up the room. Nadia opened her mouth to speak but closed it as my phone beeped. Suddenly feeling frustrated, I pulled the phone from my pocket. I was ready to ignore whoever it was, but had to be sure it wasn’t important.

Checking the screen, I felt my blood draining as I read Alexandr’s message. ‘Meeting code red.’ Lowering the phone, I looked up at her. I didn’t want to leave but knew I had to. “I’ll be back as quick as possible,” I said, kissing her cheek.

My heart felt heavy as I left her and headed to my brother’s home. Upon my arrival, Mila met me. “Hi, Abram,”she said as she opened the door. “Come on in, they’re all in Alexandr’s office.

“Evening, Mila,” I replied. “Thank you.”

I headed up the stairs and went straight to his office. Opening the door and stepping in, I was met with Anton’s pissed-off stare. I felt sure that if looks could kill, I would be dead. Tasha and even Akim were present. “Did I miss a meeting notice?” I inquired.

“No, but please sit so we can deal with the elephant in the room,” Alexandr ordered.

As I sat down next to Tasha, I knew this was about Nadia.

“Just to clarify,” Alexandr huffed. “I knew about Nadia from the start. I know who she is and everything up until now had my approval.” He was looking at Anton as he spoke.

I found it amusing to see Anton’s face fall as he comprehended the situation. He stood sharply. His tone filled with anger as he spoke. “Why the hell were we cut out, kept in the dark?”

Alexandr gave Anton his, I’m the boss look, and Antona sat back down, folding his arms across his chest. “You were kept in the dark due to necessity. We have a plan, and Abram is working on it. Tasha and Abram have been following this group for some time and have the lead on this.”

“But…,” Anton started talking. Alexandr lifted his hand, silencing the room. We all sat staring at him. The room was so quiet we could hear the wind howling through the trees outside.

“Tasha will share with you what you need to know. However, hear my words. You are not to interfere in any way. You will not talk to Nadia about anything. Do we understand?” Alexandr roared.

Anton shook his head, but I could see he was about to blow. “May I leave?” I asked.

Alexandr looked at me sternly as he continued to speak. “We know the Vasilievs are working for a bratva group. We need to reverse their job and get intel on them. This is what Abram is doing. It is his project.”

Alexandr nodded at me as he finished. I got up and left as I had more important things to take care of at the moment. Heading home, I felt slightly relieved that everyone now knew. Pulling up to the mansion, I hoped Nadia had not gone to bed yet.

Chapter 18 - Nadia

“Nadia,” Abram huffed as he came in. “I have a surprise for you.”

“Another one?” I questioned, turning away from the window.

“Yes, another one. Don’t make it sound like a punishment,” Abram replied, taking my hand. “Come, we have to leave soon.”

“Wait a minute,” I returned as I pulled back. “I need to know where we are going. Don’t I need to change into appropriate clothing first?”

He stopped in his tracks as he studied me. He looked up and down and turned his head sideways. The expression on his face almost made me laugh. I glanced down, looking at myself and then back at him as I spoke. “What? Is something wrong?”

“Nope,” he replied, grinning. “No need to change. What you have on will work. In fact, you look perfect.”

Abram grabbed my arm and started for the door again. He dragged me with him down the stairs and out the door into the car. He took his personal car and left the limo and driver at home.

As we pulled out and he started speeding up, I couldn’t resist. I had to ask. “Where are you taking me, and why are you in such a rush? Do you have a deadline?”

He grinned at me but didn’t reply. After a couple of minutes, we pulled into a large open area. Looking around as he came to a stop, I saw the large hanger and plane. There was nothing else around except for open fields and emptiness.

“Are we flying somewhere?” I questioned him as he opened my door and took my hand.

Abram kissed my fingers as he replied. “Yes, we are flying somewhere, sweetheart. Right this way.” He dragged me once again after him but this time onto a big plane. “You have a seat and strap in, I’ll be right back.”

I sat down as he moved to a man standing by the door. I heard him saying something about a graveyard as he handed the man a paper. This made me curious. Abram joined me and fastened his safety belt.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked, feeling slightly nervous. Why would we be going to a graveyard?

Abram took my hand and squeezed it as the plane took off. He sat grinning at me until the plane was in the air and we could loosen our safety belts. Turning to me, he spoke softly. “I’m taking you to see your parents.”
