Nadia smiled lightly at me as she continued. “I remember my mother singing to me before bedtime.” She shook her head. “I just can’t remember the words of the song. I have flashes of words and a tune, but that’s it.”
Squeezing her arm, I pulled her closer. “You’ll make new memories,” I added softly.
Nadia hugged me before shifting. “Comfortable?” I questioned her once she stopped.
“Yes, thank you,” she replied in barely a whisper.
I felt her drifting away as her body completely relaxed. I lay staring at the ceiling, allowing my mind to go in its own direction. It dawned on me that I had never felt as comfortable with any woman after sex as I did with Nadia at that moment. It felt natural being with her. Kissing her head softly, I closed my eyes and drifted off.
Chapter 14 - Nadia
Abram was having an important meeting this morning, and I was sitting in. Standing in front of the life-size mirror, I turned left and then right. The tan pantsuit I wore fit like a glove and made my figure pop. I grinned at my reflection.
I wasn’t sure what his family would think, but I didn’t care about their opinions much. Abram liked the tighter outfits. I had only met his brothers a few times, all fleetingly. His sister Tasha appeared nice though, even if we also only met in passing once. Yet, I couldn’t be sure if she was just acting.
Family was everything to him, and I tried to remember that when I interacted with them. My mission was to get details. I hoped attending a meeting would give me that.
Hearing Abram calling through the door brought me back to reality. “Ready to go? I don’t want to be late for this morning’s brief.”
“Coming,” I replied, grabbing my purse. Opening the door, Abram stood waiting. He held out his arm, and I placed my hand on it, smiling. Our routine has changed a lot in the last couple of days. I enjoyed the small antics we shared.
Once we arrived at the office building, we headed to the other side. “Aren’t we stopping by your office first?” I questioned as Abram took me up another elevator.
“No time,” he said, grinning at me. “Relax, it’s just a meeting.”
Swallowing hard, I smiled. “Yes, but your family will be there.”
“You’ll do fine; just take notes and keep quiet,” he added as the elevator stopped on the top floor. He gave my hand aquick squeeze and walked out. I followed closely, admiring the décor this side of the building.
It was different and livelier than the offices he had. Except for the similar gold, silver, and white patterns, there were some bright reds, greens, and yellows worked in. The hallways were carpeted and not tiled, and the offices weren’t all windows. They appeared more like offices.
We entered a big meeting room. A sizeable oval-shaped steel table sat in the center, with chairs right around. To one side was what looked like a wall-to-wall screen, and a giant whiteboard on the other.
Abram nodded to me to follow him. He moved around the table to the middle. Pulling out two chairs, Abram placed his hand on the small of my back, urging me to sit down. We had just taken our places when the rest of his family piled into the room.
I felt my palms turning sweaty and could hear my heart beating in my ears as each one glared at me before taking their places. For a moment, it felt like I had entered a nightmare. I knew this was part of my mission. Yet, they appeared more intimidating than I could ever have imagined.
Abram tapped my leg under the table. Looking at him, I felt sure he could see the sweat breaking out on my brow as nervousness started eating me up. He smiled softly, and I knew he could see it.
Most of his family sat down across from us. Some of their stares made me uncomfortable. It felt like they were dissecting me with their eyes. I wanted to sink down to the floor and hide under the table.
It was strange having them all so close to me. I knew Alexandr from the photos Vadik had shown me. I alsorecognized Akim and Tasha. But the others were new faces even though I have been working for Abram for some time now.
Then I felt Abram squeezing my hand lightly before he stood up. He spoke authoritatively as he addressed the room, taking charge. I noticed previously that he liked things done in certain ways. It was one of his strong points I admired.
He had barely spoken two sentences when Alexandr rose and stopped him. Yet, Abram wasn’t done and didn’t back down. We all sat in silence as the two brothers had a short disagreement about the delivery of a shipment.
I had to admit that I found Abram very attractive because of his hot and brazen attitude. He glanced at me, and I couldn’t resist winking at him. He smiled broadly before continuing. Feeling my cheeks heating up from the blush flooding my face, I lowered my head.
“Look,” I heard Abram saying. “We all have different ideas. So, I will allow each to have their say even though this is one of my endeavors.”
Looking up, I saw him returning to his chair. I handed him the files he had me collect as he sat down. My heart skipped a beat as our fingers brushed during the transfer. Turning my head down again, I tried to hide the smile.
As the meeting progressed and other topics were brought up, Abram and I shared quite a couple of intense glances. Our fingers also brushed another two or three times. The meeting was just about over when Anton stood sharply. “If we had done the delivery as I suggested, this wouldn’t have happened.”
I wasn’t hundred percent sure what had gone down. But it had to do with some shipments the client sent back due to mixed delivery dates. Anton’s tone of voice spoke of rudeness and his apparent dislike of Abram.
Noticing Abram clenching his fist, I realized he was about to lose his cool. Leaning closer, I placed my hand on his thigh and squeezed tenderly. Abram turned his mouth open as he was about to speak. I licked my lower lip while giving him a seductive smile. He closed his mouth and took a deep breath.
