“Absolutely.”
She sighed. “I’m just glad it’s over. And thrilled that I’m going to see my kids again. Even Olivia seemed to be less…cold.”
We fell silent again, but it wasn’t uncomfortable. In fact, it was the kind of peace that came when you were with someoneyou were entirely in sync with. Right then and there, I made a decision.Thedecision.
“Leah?”
“Yeah?”
“Will you stay with me tonight? At my place.”
“Yes,” she replied without hesitation.
CHAPTER 11
Leah
“We can go to my apartment,” I offered.
We’d never gone to his place—the home he had built with Camille. I wasn’t jealous of his wife. If anything, I was grateful that Marco had known so much love in his life, the kind that had shaped him into the kind and gentle man he was.
He tangled his fingers with mine as we drove. “I want you in my bed, Leah.”
If he wanted that, then that was where I intended to be. I hadn’t had sex in a while—since I started my law practice. I just hadn’t had the time.
I’d thought sex with Kevin was good, but then there had been a one-night stand in the early days of my divorce that showed me that the sex I had in my marriage wasmerelydecent. Kevin had made me so insecure about my body that I’d worried about being naked with him. But the one-night stand didn’t give a crap about any of that. He ate me out and made me come—grabbed me and took me from behind. It had been a revelation. But, alas, afterhim, I’d had some duds—wham, bam, thank you, ma’am. They didn’t even get me off.
Making love with Marco would be momentous. I knew it was folly to raise my expectations, but in my heartandmy body, I felt that we’d be good together.
I wasn’t wrong.
He had me out of my clothes before we got to his bedroom because we’d been making out like teenagers in the car. I had his shirt off of him as we took the stairs. I had his jeans undone by the time we hit the top of the stairs. All this happened while we kissed, unable to stop.
He lifted me, his hands on my ass, and dropped me onto his bed. He kissed me deep and long. He tasted good. Like Montrachet and coffee. Like pine and musk.
I rolled my tongue with his as his hands cupped my breasts. I threw my head back as he pinched my nipples.
“Fuck, yeah,” he groaned when I took him in my hands. He was hot, erect, silky smooth.
His hands were all over me and mine on him.
“Fuck,” he groaned again and raised his head to look at me. “I don’t have any condoms.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Don’t look at me like that,” he grinned. “I…never brought a woman here. And, I haven’t had one in my wallet for…a while.”
I licked my lips. “I have an IUD.”
“I get tested for insurance.”
This was a big commitment, having sex without protection. But I’d just taken this man into the lion’s den, my family, and he’d protected me, been by my side, deflected Kevin and Brittany, and allowed me space to bond with my children.
I nipped his bottom lip.
He kissed me, filling his hands with my breasts and sliding them over my belly and between my legs.
I whimpered when he moved down my body, following his hands. When he put pressure on my clit with his tongue, I was ready to go off the edge.
