“Trash like your friend here,” he spat, and I hit him again.

Aaliyah caught my wrist, her gaze warning me no more. “Why did you falsify the data, James?”

He stared at her like she was stupid. “Easy. Company profits. Shareholders. My European holiday and company bonus.”

Psychopath didn’t care who he hurt or why. The pain assholes like him inflicted on individuals, the financial burden to their families, the grief when they lost their loved ones.

“You killed and injured people, you psychopath!” My mate’s voice thundered with the fury of her goddess.

I could only imagine the horrors she witnessed in the ER. Tending to all the ill patients, many who suffered from drugs like this. Consoling the families who lost their loved ones.

“I did my job, bitch,” James snarled, no longer caring about prolonging his life. “I got the drug approved and on the market. I boosted our 2015 revenue by three hundred percent.”

I smashed him in the cheek. He seemed resigned to die and today I would let him have it.

“You have no soul.” Aaliyah stood up. “Men like you disgust me.”

Time for judgment, asshole. My finger hovered over the button. I looked to my mate for her decision.” Show mercy or grant him judgment, Sorceress?”

Shadows swept across her features. “Do it!”

Fuck. My woman could reckon with the best of them. I would lay one on her lips if it wasn’t for the inappropriate timing.

Honored to share this moment with her, I jammed my finger on the cold button. An overdose of anesthetic released into James’ tubes, swirling down through the cannula and into his veins. His heart stopped within seconds and he sagged against his pillows.

I drew my mate into my embrace to kiss her. “How do you feel?”

She patted her face a few times as if she thought herself in a nightmare. “Not an ounce of guilt.”

Good. I thought it might help to put good and evil into perspective. Danny wasn’t a good guy. He might not have killed as many as old James here, but that didn’t make him any less of a sinner.

I let her go to cover his body with a blanket. Not that he deserved such respect, but I granted it. “The world is better off without assholes like him.”

Aaliyah came back into my arms, stroking my chest. “You were right. That was freeing.”

I held her tightly. My Dark Sorceress. “Told you.”

She punched my arm. “Yeah, yeah. You were right. Bragging rights.”

I chuckled and she shivered at the sound. “I love your dark laugh,” she admitted.

I hoisted her up my body and she curled her legs around my hips. “It’s pretty sexy, isn’t it?”

She snorted and smacked my chest. I loved the sound.

Now for the real test. “How are your ghosts?”

Her gaze dragged up to the corner. “Danny’s demon is burning to ash as we speak.”

“Good.” I kissed the top of her head, pleased that asshole would leave her alone from now on. “You can move on with your life knowing you saved many lives from his evil.”

She made a humming noise of agreement.

I adjusted my dick to ease the pressure against my jeans. I was half tempted to knock that asshole’s dead body off the bed and fuck her there. A little gruesome and not sexy, but hell, we might never get another chance to complete another reckoning together and I wanted to see her in action again.

“That was hot, Sorceress.” I cuddled her. “You taking charge. Judging his reckoning. Not many women would have the stomach for it.”

She rested her head on my shoulder. “Glad you think so, because I feel ill now.”
