I thought about my answer for several seconds.“Is two okay?”

“As long as you’re not bringing a date, that’s not a problem.”

Smiling at his wry tone, I did rest my head against his arm for a few seconds.“I will be bringing a man.But he’s related to me.”

He tensed.“Your dad’s a cop, right?Am I gonna need bail money?”

I laughed, just a quick huff of sound.“I’m not bringing my dad.I’d like to bring my nephew. He’s sports crazy.”

“Sure, no problem.”

I had the sense that, with Shane, that was no bullshit. That he honestly meant what he’d said.I was so used to guys who lied to get what they wanted or told me what they thought I wanted to hear.

This guy seemed so genuine.

So what are you missing?

Hopefully nothing that would come back to bite me.

Down the hall, door hinges squealed and my head swiveled to see Faith’s dad emerge. His chin almost rested on his chest but I could see his hands clenched in fists at his sides.

The man was pissed.And heartbroken.

Touching Shane on the shoulder, I leaned in.“I’m just going to see if Faith needs me.”

“No problem.Don’t worry about me.I’ll be waiting here when you’re ready to go.”

I flashed him a smile and got caught for a second in the sincerity of those blue eyes.

You are in so much trouble. This man is dangerous.

But it would be so much fun while it lasted.

Shane

“Doyou want to come in for a drink?”Bliss looked over her shoulder at me as she opened the door to her apartment.“I’m afraid I might drink an entire bottle of rum by myself tonight and that wouldn’t be a good idea.I don’t want to be hungover at dinner at my parents’ tomorrow.”

I had been hoping she’d invite me in but I hadn’t wanted to get my hopes up.And I really didn’t want her to feel like she had to entertain me.

Bliss was upset. And yeah, I totally got why.I didn’t even know Faith and I wanted to punch her douchebag former fiancé.

I also didn’t want to make Bliss’ night any tougher than it already had been.

But I didn’t want to leave, either.

“Sure.”

Smiling, she opened the door and waved me inside.

I hadn’t gotten a real look at her place before but now I let myself look as she headed toward the back of the apartment.

“I’m going to change.Give me a minute.”

“No problem.”

As I took off my jacket and loosened my tie, I glanced around. The open floor plan was pretty cool and the higher ceiling meant the bedroom area was a loft accessed by a short flight of stairs.

She’d hung fabric from the ceiling so I couldn’t see her but I heard her rustling around. My brain supplied images of her naked body and my dick took the hint and got hard.
