Suddenly, a large hole appears in the ceiling and three stone bodies fall through. All with parts of their heads caved in.

Maddox drops through the hole with two more gargoyles gripped in his hands.

He keeps slamming their bodies together until their skulls crack and their bodies become lifeless.

No doubt, they tried their best to hurt Maddox. But with his impervious skin, they didn’t make much progress.

Quickly examining the bodies, I spot broken teeth and snapped talons.

Leaping to my feet, I grab one gargoyle before it hits the floor and rip an arm from its socket.

Time to fucking hunt.

Finally reaching the garage, I see utter chaos.

Asher is moving around multiple gargoyles as they try to take him down.

But Asher’s main power is extreme strength.

He simply punches holes into the gargoyles heads.

Ambrose is down on the floor, his body badly beaten. Caden stands above him, protecting him, but isn’t looking much better himself.

Chloe is blinking around the room. Dodging and weaving around gargoyles as Matthias breaks their heads off from behind.

It looks like most of the gargoyles have tried to breech our house here. Where we were keeping the hunter.

The fucking hunter was a goddamn trap.

My heart aches at the loss of my beloved. The bond stretching between us strained and taut.

But I have to fight now and help my family if I want to get her back.

Kian dashes over to stand behind Maddox and me, using us as a shield to answer his phone. While he talks, Maddox and I dispatch a duo of gargoyles.

“The pack has five subdued or dead outside!” Kian shouts above the mayhem. “They haven’t seen any come through the skies for a few minutes. Whatever’s here is the last of them!”

Shoving my way forward, I glare through the opening of the garage and see a few gargoyles outside. Either they’ve lost their desire to fight, or they’ve been called back, because they suddenly take flight.

Soaring up to the sky, they’re beyond our reach in an instant.

Even with the levitation abilities some of us possess, there’s no chance we can catch them.

Turning to Asher, I grab the last of the gargoyles from him.

Pressing its head between my hands and staring into its glowing red eyes, I bellow my rage.

All the torment... All the anger and hatred…

The utter fuckingdespairI feel flows through my arms as I crush its head into dust.

“Raphael.” Asher grabs me by the shoulders and forces me to look at him. “Calm. Focus. Do not go into a rage.”

Shoving Asher away from me, I grit my teeth. “I’m already fucking raging, Asher. But I’m focused! I control my rage now! It was a gift from my beloved.”

In my periphery, I see a lot of movement.

Acting quick, I catch Caden before he hits the ground.
