“So, what do you want to do first?” Toby asks, spinning around to face me.
I grin up at him in excitement.
The fair becomes a completely different vibe for the adults. More dark and creepy.
It takes about a half hour for them to change everything over. But the one thing that only opens at night time is the fun house that leads to the haunted house.
“Everything.”
Chapter 16
Lillianna
With all the kids gone, we go on all the rides again, this time enjoying them in a different way.
It’s almost time to leave, the park will be closing soon. But there’s one last thing I want to do first.
“Come on.” I grab both of their hands and pull them towards the haunted house.
“You sure you wanna do this?” Toby asks, a grin on his face. “You and haunted houses don’t have a great past.”
One time, a house on our block decked their house out hardcore for Halloween. They had money and spared nothing, getting all the good stuff.
So, yes, I was freaked out.Trust me, I had every right to be. It looked straight out of a horror movie.
“It was one time.” I roll my eyes.
“One time you screamed so loud you had our ears ringing and then almost passed out.” Bishop chuckles.
“And you almost pissed yourself,” Toby adds in amusement.
“That was because I needed to pee before going in, not because of the haunted house,” I mutter.
“Plus, you know how much I love scary movies. I love the adrenaline it gives me, the way it gets my heart pumping–not to mention the fact that I have you two to protect me.” I smile, batting my eyelashes at them.
“True. Bianca was a horrible haunted house buddy.” Bishop snorts. “She took off running and left you for dead.”
“Whatever,” I mutter. “Come on.”
I might not have been in this haunted house before, but I have been to the attached fun house. The guys and I wouldspend hours in there. Bishop’s older cousin used to work for the fairgrounds and even let us come during the off-season. We know every inch and hiding place there is to know.
We get in line and wait our turn. With each passing second, the wait has me more and more anxious, in a good way.
Bishop has his arm around my shoulder, with me tucked into his side, but I’ve refused to let Toby’s hand go.
He smiles down at me, and my heart flips as he tightens his hand around my fingers.
This small glimpse of what I have to look forward to when we can finally be together and out to the world has my heart racing far more than any haunted house.
“Single file, please. If you would like to go into the fun house afterward, you will exit through the door to your left, if you would like to leave, exit on the right.” The worker informs us before stepping to the side and letting us go.
Bishop stands in front, me in the middle, and Toby behind me.
Once we walk in, nerves start to take over. I’m on guard, ready for whatever is going to pop out at us.
“Is someone scared?” Toby whispers, his breath fanning against the back of my neck. I jump, a little yelp leaving me.
“Stop that!” I whisper-hiss.
