“How do you know?” Because even I don’t. Every day, I wake up and wonder if my world is going to crash down around me. It’s a scary place to be.
“Because I’m going to be right by your side, every step of the way. I will be there, sword in hand, battling your nightmares with you. You're not alone, Toby. With me, you will never be alone. There’s no side of you that will ever make me stop loving you, stop wanting you. In my eyes, your broken pieces are like precious sea glass. Not something that’s supposed to be fixed, they're meant to be the way they are. They might be ugly to others but to me? They’re something to be treasured; they’re beautiful. Take the time you need for whatever you need it for. But know I’m going to be there with you while you do it. We’re in this together, Toby, just like it was always meant to be.”
Chapter 6
Tobias
Her words suck the air right out of my lungs. Wild and fast, my heart pounds within my chest, trying to burst free.
My fingers tremble as I bite the inside of my cheek, my nose stinging and my eyes misty.
She has no idea how much those words just healed a part of me. Each one was like a stitch, piecing my heart, soul, and mind back together.
And right now, in this moment, I know everything will be alright. It will work out in the end. Because I have everything I need to keep me strong right beside me. I’ll never forgive myself for how I’ve treated her these past few years or the pain I’ve caused. But I plan on spending every day of my life, until my dying breath, proving to her that giving me another chance wasn’t a mistake. I won’t allow it to be.
Screw anyone else and what they might think, Lilly is mine. Always has been and always will be. My forever, my best friend, my soul mate, mine.
She lets out a gasp as I yank her down, her body landing on top of mine. Wrapping my arm around her, I flip us over so that I’m the one hovering above her, pinning her to the bed.
“Toby,” she pants out my name, eyes wild with need and lips parted in anticipation.
“I love you, Flower,” I murmur, chest rising and falling with every heavy breath I take as I work hard to keep my impulses under control, to not fuck her right here on my childhood bed like I’ve dreamed about so many damn times as an obsessed teenager. “I need you to know I’m not going to hurt you anymore. I know actions speak louder than words, but I planon showing you every fucking day. Prove to you that I live and fucking breathe for you,” I growl, brushing my lips against hers. A tiny whimper escapes, and I’m nearly done for. “The only crying I want to see from you is when you're shattering around me as you sob out my name, Baby Girl.” I rock my hips, letting her know just how fucking crazy I am for her right now. “The only tears that will fall are the ones that slip free as you take me down this tight throat, gagging on my cock like a good fucking girl.”
“Oh god,” she whimpers, her breathing coming out in heavy pants.
“Do you think you can do that for me?” I murmur, grazing my lips back down her jaw, giving it a nip before I bring my face back to hover over hers.
I’ve never seen her eyes so wide before. Pure, unfiltered lust shines brightly within them. I did that; I made her feel that way... for me.
I need her. I know I don’t have a right to ask anything from her right now, but my whole body is trembling to touch her, taste her, make her feel good.
“Yes,” her voice cracks as if she’s about to cry.
“What's wrong?” My brows furrow.
“I love you.” Her breathing picks up. “I love you so much. I need you. Can I please be yours now?”
“Oh, baby,” I breathe out, pressing a kiss to her forehead. “Don’t you know by now, you’ve always been mine?”
“Toby.” My name on her lips is like a prayer.
“Yes, my Flower?” I murmur, kissing her forehead again and again, soft, slow, lingering kisses.
“I need to hear you say it.”
My lips curve into a smile against her skin. Part of me can’t believe this is actually happening. Lilly and me. Together. Official. Something I’ve been wanting for so damn long.Something I thought I’d never get, I’d never allow myself to have.
I can’t even remember why I tried to prevent this from happening. All of that seems silly and pointless now.
“You're mine, Lilly.” I kiss my way down from her forehead to the tip of her nose before pulling back. “My girl. My heart. My everything.”
“I’m your girlfriend?”
She needs the words, those exact words, to settle that niggling doubt that’s still in the back of her mind.
“Yes, baby.” I lean my weight onto my left arm as I use my free hand to brush some wild stands of bright blonde hair from her perfect face. “You're my girlfriend, Lilly. And I’m your boyfriend.” I chuckle.
The bright smile that takes over her face has my heart exploding in my chest.Idid that.Imade her smile. And fuck me, I want to see her smile like that each and every day for the rest of our lives.
