“You’re alive.” She sobbed into his neck.

“Yeah, I am.”

While my mate sobbed and clung to my brother, everyone but Myles left us.

“Ember, I’m fine. You can let me breathe now.” Reed chuckled, but his brown eyes were shining, his voice gravelly.

“No. Not letting you go. Godsdammit, Ikilledyou, Reed. Then I watched that bastard demon eat away at your body.”

Reed lowered her to the floor, but she didn’t let go and I didn’t miss his wince as she gripped his upper arms so tightly her nails scored his skin. He glanced at me, clearly ready for me to rip him apart. And, normally, if she touched any other male like that, I would. But right then, I was overjoyed she remembered him properly. And she was so overcome with relief that she needed to touch him to convince herself he really was alive and well.

“Honestly, I’m fine. Ask Myles.”

Ember looked at Myles, who grinned and nodded. “Honestly, he really is.”

She hugged him again. “I’m so sorry,” she said, her voice breaking. “I couldn’t stop myself.”

He held her close again. “It wasn’t your fault, Em. Not in any way. Don’t you ever think it was.”

She turned her head, laying her cheek against his chest, and sought me out. “How?” she whispered.

I took pity on Reed, who she was still gripping too tightly. Gently, I pried my mate’s grip from my brother. “Let him breathe, and I will tell you.”

“Oh.” She pulled back, flushing a little at the scrapes she’d left on his skin. “Sorry,” she said sheepishly.

Reed glanced at his arm and then grinned widely. “I’ll take it.” He leaned down and tapped his cheek. “Plant one there, and we’ll call it even.”

She grinned, then smacked a big kiss on his cheek. He straightened up and looked at my fisted hands. “Er, I think we’ll go now. Catch you later, Ember.” He winked at her, and he and Myles walked out.

Before I could move, Ember launched into my arms, wrapped her legs around my waist and kissed me so hard she stole my breath. “You saved him? Without the Halo?” she breathed against my lips.

I nodded and smirked. “Obviously.”

“Arrogant arse,” she muttered and bit my bottom lip. That bit of pain shot straight to my cock. Fuck, I was fast losing control. I almost threw her on the table and fucked her there, only Lance was smirking from across the room, and as much as I wanted to bellow at him to get out, we had demons to find, and he needed access to the tech to do that. Holding Ember with one arm, I marched out of the room and past Owen and Walker, who were talking quietly in the corridor. Neither of them said a thing. There was no point in reminding me we were in the middle of a war against Hell, one that could devour our world; nothing would sway me from this time with Ember, and everyone knew it. She’d been present yet absent since we’d saved her in Italy. Right now, we needed this time to remember who we were.

Chapter 22

Ember

I keptmy arms and legs curled around Connor, holding him tight. My heart was going to explode. I was certain of it. Over the past few hours, all of my memories had hit me, the good, the bad, and the downright fucking ugly. But I was here, and I had Connor back; wholly and completely.

Pregnant! Withhisbaby. My insides clenched at the memory of how that had happened.

“I can smell how much you want me,” he rubbed his nose along my neck, nipping me with one of his canines. “You ready for me, Firecracker?”

“I might be. We’ll see. I’m still pretty angry at you for lying to me.”

“I didn't lie, I omitted, and it was to protect you from being overwhelmed with even more information when your brain was already struggling to process everything that had happened.”

“I know, but you don’t get to make that kind of decision by yourself. We’re a couple.”

Even if I kinda understood why he’d omitted to tell my amnesiac self I was pregnant, I was still pissed that he’d done it.

“Hmm, I know. But you should have trusted me, not run from me.”

“Trusted you? Fuck you, Connor. You couldn’t even reassure me the child was ours. You let that bastard Rex sow a seed of doubt in your head.” I pulled back and looked him directly in the eye. “Have you any idea how that doubt, no matter how fleeting, made me feel?”

His footsteps halted, his expression softening. “You’re right. I did let him in my head. I should have been stronger, and I should have told you about the baby, for that, I am truly sorry.” Then his gaze darkened. “But you shouldn’t have kept on running. If you’d stayed with me, I could have told you I’d made a mistake, but you chose to put your life in danger instead. Walker found you first. Do you have any idea how muchthatscared me? You’re mine, and he has already threatened to take you from me if there is a chance you could be captured and open the Hell gates. You need to stay away from him, and don’t go anywhere alone.”
