Jinn and I were falling in love. It should have been a glorious time. Of course, it was. But with the shadow of Colt hanging over him, he had so much to deal with. If I could make it all go away, I would.
Back home, I did all I could think of to help. I fixed him comfort food of grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup. I tended to his wounds. I held him in my lap.
He wasn’t shy about any of that. He wanted it. And when he wanted more, I gave that to him, as well.
Over the next few days, we shopped online and bought him new clothes. I insisted on paying; we argued over that for a while. I won.
After a week, there had been no sign of Colt. The police hit dead end after dead end.
It was our seventh night together. Jinn’s ankle had healed enough so that he could walk with only a cane now. We lay in bed, our bodies covered with the sweat of our passion.
“Are you always so wet for me?” I asked, joking.
“Yes.” Jinn’s eyes twinkled. Then grew serious. “I never leaked for him. Not one drop. I was drunk and a fool. I want you to know.”
“You don’t have to say anything.”
“I want to. The only person to ever have that effect on me is you.”
I couldn’t think of a proper response, so I kissed him hard and long.
After I pulled away, he said, “You do believe me, don’t you?”
That was when I thought of the perfect answer. “You know what that means, don’t you?”
“What?”
“That you and I should get married. It’s only proper—ugh!”
He jumped up and tackled me, all naked limbs, his mouth covering me with bites and licks. “You mean it?”
“Do you mean am I proposing?”
“Are you?” he asked breathlessly.
“Jinn.” I took his face between both my palms. “Will you marry me?”
“Yes! Yes!” Then he sat back, face falling. “But isn’t it too soon? We’ve only known each other for a week.”
What’s to know? He is our omega, no question. Why do humans always question?
“Lyrican says you’re already his. He’s known from the beginning. Time doesn’t matter to dragons.”
“Jinnan agrees.” He bit down on his bottom lip as his grin spread uncontrollably.
“Then if Lyrican, Jinnan and I don’t think it’s too soon, you’re out-numbered.”
He hugged me tight, rubbing his body all over mine. We were interrupted by bodily needs before we could discuss setting a date.
Jinn tooka sabbatical from his job. They didn’t fire him but kept the position open with only temp replacements until he wanted to return. He took the time to rest, heal and begin planning our wedding.
Lyrican and Jinnan finally introduced themselves to each other in my backyard. Jinnan was a cute green dragon, about half the size of Lyrican with a cute square butt that hopped up and down when he ran.
Lyrican stared at that butt constantly and always tried to sniff it when they played. It wasn’t the first time I realized Lyrican was attracted to square butts. When shifted, he’d seen a few over the years and often I couldn’t pull his attention away from them unless I shouted into his mind.
Our omega was perfect for us in every way.
The days grew shorter as summer ended.
