“Why not?” I demanded. “And how can we stop? Ineedyou, Turk. If you hadn’t come in last night and taken care of me, I might have died. I felt sobad.”
He sighed and shook his head.
“But you’re my best friend’s little sister!”
“Well, I’malsoyour Fated Mate,” I told him firmly. “In fact, I’msurethat’s why my body is craving yours so much. I’ve heard that once Fated Mates start spending time together in close proximity, they startedneedingeach other—the way I’ve been needing you.”
“I don’t know about the Fated Mate thing,” he objected. “But Idoknow you’ve been promised to another.”
I gave him a hurt look.
“Are you really going to give me up to that awful old man? His name is Grr. Malofice, you know. My stepmother chose him because he owns half the garment district and he’s agreed to give her plenty of discounts on the latest fashions, if she’ll deliver me to him. And you should see the way helooksat me.” I shuttered, feeling sick. “Like he can’twaitto get his filthy hands all over me.”
Turk’s eyes narrowed and a low growl rose to his lips. I was trying to appeal to his Brute nature—which is extremely possessive—and it seemed I had succeeded.
“All right, I agree you shouldn’t have to be Bound to a male you don’t love,” he said. “ButI’mnot the right one for you either, little bird! Your brother and father would never allow it!”
“We have tomakethem allow it!” I protested. “After all, they’re not the ones who have to live the rest of their lives with a nasty old GrandSire pawing at their bodies! It’s not fair, Turk! You’re the one for me—my Fated Mate. You know the Goddess says in her Holy Scriptures that Fated Mates, once Joined and Bound, must never be separated and pulled apart!”
“I know.” He sighed. “But I just can’t…I don’t know what to do.”
“Do what you want—what comes naturally,” I suggested. “You can’t deny that we feel right together—that our bodies call to each other.”
He gave a short, barking laugh.
“That’s not saying much—anyone would feel called to your gorgeous, curvy little body, baby.”
I loved it when he called me sweet nicknames like that!
“Well, my body is only foryou,” I told him. Leaning closer, I kissed him gently, tasting a faint hint of sweetness on his lips—the traces of the nectar he had sucked from my breasts. “And speaking of that, would you touch me some more, Turk? Could you make me come one more time?”
Regretfully, he shook his head.
“No, little bird—I have to go down to breakfast and get your tray. Then it’s time to do the trading. We should be at Dovix Centra by now.”
I bit my lip.
“Can…could I go with you?”
He frowned.
“I don’t think so. Dovix Centra isn’t a very safe place—especially for women.”
“No, I meant to breakfast,” I said. “I’m tired of being cooped up here in your quarters! Why can’t I just put on my compression tank and my uniform and be Cass again? The Crew would never know the difference.”
“Oh, yes they would,” I said grimly. “You were pretty as Cass—you’re fucking gorgeous as your true self. You think they won’t notice? Think again.”
“But—” I began.
“Besides, do you really think you could stand to wear that damn compression tank again?” He cupped one of my bare breasts and thumbed the nipple lightly.
A bright spark of sensation that was so intense it was somewhere between pleasure and pain shot through me and I moaned and jerked in his hand.
“See?” Turk raised his eyebrows at me. “If you’re so sensitive you can’t even stand to wear a night shirt, you’re way too fuckingsensitive for that tank. Besides, I don’t think it would fit you anymore. Your breasts have grown.”
I looked down at myself uncertainly and had to admit he was probably right. I used to have small to medium sized breasts. Now they were definitely on the larger size. I wasn’t sure if that was because they kept filling with nectar or because they had somehow grown a size or two for good. But either way the compression tank would no longer fit me. And even if it did, it would be agony to wear.
“So I’m just going to be stuck here for the whole rest of the trip?” I demanded. “What about the navigation? Going from one planet to the next in the same galaxy is one thing but are youreallygoing to trust Gurflug to plot the courses from the Triplex Cluster back home to the Imperium Galaxy?”
