“Woah!” He chuckles, catching me in his arms as my legs wrap themselves around his solid waist. “What’s this for?”
I squeeze him tighter, my arms around his neck. “I just love you and I'm so glad you guys are friends again.”
Nick laughs again, trailing his fingers up under the back of my t-shirt. “You locked us in here remember, we didn’t have much of a choice.”
“What did you say to get him to change his mind about us?” I ask, lifting my face from the crevice of his neck and twisting my fingers in the back of his hair.
He shrugs nonchalantly. “Nothing much, we just talked over everything and I told him how I feel about you. It took him a while to really hear what I was saying, but he came around.”
I smack a tight kiss to his lips and smile softly. “Thank you.”
I sink my face back into his neck and he holds me to his chest, the warmth combined with his familiar smell gives me a comfort I’ve never experienced before. My heart finally feels at peace, I'm actually happy, like really happy.
CHAPTER 28
LOIS
I lean back in my chair, rubbing my much too full stomach. The music is just starting to make the room thump, children are already on the dance floor skidding on their knees and pretending to be airplanes. I look over at Sean and Callie where they sit on the top table, surrounded by my parents, Callie’s Dad, Kyle and Molly. The wedding planning finally all fell into place and Callie looks happier than I’ve ever seen her. Sean whispers something into her ear and she giggles like a child. God they disgust me sometimes, but I love nothing more than to see the people I love happy. Lily squirms in Nick’s lap as soon as he’s finished feeding her blobs of whipped cream from his dessert. The girl is none stop like her daddy, full of energy at all timesand I know she wants to run across that dance floor and cause some chaos.
“Just let her go, she can go and cause some trouble over there for a while.” I say, taking Lily’s little hand and helping her down from Nick’s lap.
It seems my theory was correct because the moment her tiny ballet pumps hit the ground she’s off in a wobbly run towards her parents.
Callie sees her coming and gets to her feet, scooping Lily up into her arms. Her dress is stunning, sparkling white with a long train that drags behind her when she walks. Her curls are tamed into a plait that hangs loosely over one of her shoulders. She looks like a fucking princess and I can’t wipe the smile off my face as I watch the newlywed couple head for the dance floor.
Nick’s hand lands on my shoulder. “Wanna dance?”
I can hear the smirk in this voice, so I twist my face to where he sits slightly behind me. “Do you just want to dance to piss my brother off?”
Nick’s naughty grin widens. “Maybe, but I also want an excuse to have my hands all over you.”
I roll my eyes but get up from my chair, grabbing Nick’s suit clad arm and pulling him to the dance floor with me. The slow music fills the air as we watch Sean and Callie sway softly to the beat, Lily clinging to their legs as they move and smile down at her. After a moment they gesture for all the other couples to join them on the dance floor, so Nick takes my hand in his and guides me to a spot on the slightly slippery laminate.
His arms come around my waist and I sling my arms around his broad shoulders. We sway slowly, not saying much, just soaking each other in as we move. My eyes are fixed on him, the man who changed everything I thought I knew about love and what it meant to feel it. Sometimes I think back to the huge crush I hadon him, it seems like a lifetime ago that I didn’t know him inside out. My Nick.
He takes my chin between his fingers and pulls me in for a kiss, it’s soft and slow and I know he’s telling me that he can read my mind. He knows I'm silently reminiscing on how we got here, and rather than tell me with words how he feels, he seals my mouth to his with a passion that makes my knees buckle a little.
Someone clears their throat behind me and I jump, breaking the kiss. “Jesus Christ Sean, you scared me!”
Sean and Callie have made their way into our bubble and my brother’s expression is one of sass.
“Do you have to do that in front of me? I know I’ve had time to get my head around you two, but there’s no need to rub in right in my face now is there?” His eyes are piercing, the green filtering through like they do when he’s in the sunlight. Under the hard exterior though I can feel the love he has for me, when his gaze lands on mine and a dimpled smile pops out of nowhere.
“At least you didn’t have to listen to us having sex,” I mutter under my breath and Nick gives me a warning look, silently begging me not to bring this up now. But that only makes me want to make my brother squirm even more.
“Listen to you having sex? I walked in on you two, or did you forget about that?” He scoffs, shuddering and hiding his face in Callie’s hair.
“Oh don’t be such a baby! You only saw us for like a second and listening to you two having sex was much worse than anything you saw.”
Nick looks down at me again with wide eyes, a tiny shake of his head following but I still continue to smirk back at him, loving this game I’ve just started.
“It’s a bit different hearing Callie and me through a wall, I was in the same room as you two!” Sean hisses, checking over his shoulder that nobody is listening.
“So were we! Remember that party where you and Callie snuck off to the bathroom to fuck? Nick and I were behind the shower curtain the who—” my voice is cut off by Nick’s palm that comes over my mouth to shut me up, but I'm laughing too hard to care.
Sean's face is pale, Callie’s too and Nick takes that as he cue to drag me away before I piss myself on the dance floor. When he finally gets me back to the table he unclamps my mouth and spins me around to face him.
“What the hell are you doing?” He’s trying so hard to be serious, but I can see the corners of his mouth fighting a smile.
