“There’s plenty to do there,” he said.

“We’ll see. I do have some extra vacation time put away.” She grinned. She settled back and glanced out the window. She didn’t want to get too excited about any future trips or plans.

One day at a time.

That’s what they were going to do. They were going to start dating.

But if they were going to officially start dating and have their first date, did that include sex?

Sofie glanced back over at Jaxon and clenched her legs together. Her core pulsed with the thought of his thick cock. She held back a whimper, remembering how well they fit together.

“What are you thinking about?” he asked. He guided the car onto the highway. It was late, and there weren’t many vehicles on the road. The car accelerated, the scenery flying by. Jaxon’s crooked grin was noticeable in the low light.

“Nothing at all,” she murmured. She took the time to study him while he drove. His hand rested on the gear shift while the other one guided the car along.

“Doesn’t look like nothing,” he replied. He glanced over at her before turning his attention back ahead of them.

“Why me?” she asked. He could be with any woman in the world but instead he was here with her. Since the moment they’d met, there had been something about him. She thought he was handsome, but his arrogance was downright annoying. They argued over everything, but now she saw that it was a way of foreplay.

“Why not you?” He snorted. “If I had the chance to submit what I wanted in a woman, you would be the end result. You are beautiful, intelligent, sexy, funny, and caring. The list could go on. Everything about you is just right for me.”

Her heart thudded.

Jesus.

The man certainly knew which buttons to push for her. She bit her lip and realized it was the same for her. If she had the chance to input what she wanted in a man, Jaxon fit the bill.

“You’re just saying that.”

“Am I? If I didn’t want to be with you, I wouldn’t.”

“Are you sure? I’m not like any of the women you were with before?” She scowled at the memory of the women she’d seen him with. The first time they had ever met, he’d been staying at London’s old apartment and had been hosting a party. There had been no telling how many women had been there that night.

“That’s a good thing.” He reached for her hand and brought it to his lips. He pressed a gentle kiss to the back of it. “There is no other woman like you. Those other women can’t hold a candle to you.”

Sofie bit back a smile and tried to not fidget. She was completely turned on by his words alone. Mr. Arrogant was turning into Mr. Smooth Talker.

She turned away and stared out the window at the scenery as it flew by. They rode in a comfortable silence. They sped along the dark road until he took the exit that would lead to her home. It wasn’t long before he was pulling into her driveway. She lived in a quiet, safe suburb on the east side of Cleveland.

He killed the engine and turned to her.

“Want to come in for a nightcap?” she asked. She didn’t want the night to end. It was late, but she wasn’t tired at all. Inviting him in was a setup. They were supposed to be having their first date soon, but asking him in for a drink was just payback for bringing her home.

A drink would be sufficient for a ride home.

Jaxon’s intense gaze had her swimming in her seat. The corner of his lips lifted into a smirk.

“I was hoping you’d ask.” He exited the car and came around to her side and opened the door for her. He held out his hand and assisted her out. He shut the door behind her and entwined their fingers together as they headed up the walkway toward her porch. Her home was a small brick house that had been fully renovated before she had purchased it.

They arrived at her door. She took her hand back from Jaxon’s to allow her to dig inside her purse in search of her keys. Jaxon leaned his shoulder on her home, watching her. She giggled, finally finding her keys. She took them out and held them up.

“How much stuff do you have in there?” He snorted.

“All the things I need.” She slid her key inside the lock and twisted. She glanced over at him and smiled shyly. She wasn’t rich and loaded, but she was proud of her home. She had worked hard to be able to afford it. “Welcome to my home.”

Sofie pushed the door in and entered. Jaxon strolled in, his eyes immediately scanning her place. She shut the door behind him and turned, trying to see things from his view. There was an open floor plan that allowed the kitchen to be in view of the living and dining room.

“I have some wine in the fridge.” She brushed past him and tossed her purse down on the table beside her couch. Her automatic timers had switched on the living room lamp. She had purchased the system when she rotated shifts at work. She hated coming home to a dark house.
