They left in the opposite direction. Bindy didn’t stay too far from the restaurant. He would ensure she made it home safely, then he would head over to Sofie’s to smooth things out.

He actually was looking forward to her anger and what was sure to be a fight. It was something about her fiery nature that made him want her.

“Thank you for inviting me out with your friends.” Bindy strolled alongside him.

The moon was high, giving them plenty of light. It was beautiful out, and he found himself wishing it was Sofie he was walking with.

“Not a problem. You needed it.”

“Was that her? The one who was angry?” Bindy slyly glanced at him.

He had shared with her that he was seeing someone but he was unable to tell anyone.

“Sofie?” He chuckled, sliding his hands in his pockets. He wasn’t surprised Bindy had picked upon Sofie’s animosity. At the gym the other day, he’d found himself telling Bindy about Sofie. It had felt good to speak someone. He was unable to confide in London. Since his brother had tied the knot with Alana, he was insisting it was time for Jaxon to do the same. Jaxon blew out a deep breath. Was he ready to settle down? “Yeah, it was her.”

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Alana asked.

She and London had walked her home. She glanced at them and shrugged.

“Of course.” She laughed. Sofie ran her hands along the skirt of her dress, smoothing out the wrinkles. Taking a deep breath, she glanced up to meet Alana’s curious gaze. She tried to erase all emotions from her face. She didn’t want to be interrogated by her friend about this. “Why wouldn’t I be?”

“You seem to be upset about something. Was it Jaxon and his friend?” Alana asked cautiously.

London strolled a short distance away from them as if sensing they needed a little privacy.

Sofie didn’t want to admit how much it hurt her to see Jaxon with another woman. Had he been seeing other women during their time apart? They hadn’t made any commitment to each other. Their only agreement was what happened here, stayed here. Sofie didn’t know when she’d started catching feelings for him. This was supposed to be fun with no strings attached, but why did she harbor the distinct feeling of betrayal?

“I promise, I’m fine. I must have had too much wine. You know I can’t stand his smug face and how he’s flaunting his bimbos,” she scoffed. She fiddled with her purse to keep her hands busy. As much as she wanted to strangle Jaxon, he was nowhere to be seen. He was with Bindy. She dug her hands into her purse in a strong grip. She didn’t even want to think of what they could possibly be doing. “At least I didn’t bring my guy, and what kind of name is Bindy?”

“Yeah, I don’t know about her name.” Alana chuckled. She glanced over at her husband then focused on Sofie. “But if you’re okay, I’ll head back to my place.”

“I’m good, you guys enjoy the rest of your evening.” Sofie wrapped Alana up in a quick hug. She offered her friend what she hoped was a genuine smile before jogging up to her little bungalow. She entered and shut the door behind her. She leaned back on the wooden door and sighed deeply.

Sofie closed her eyes and couldn’t shake the image of Jaxon and Bindy from her mind. Obviously, one woman wasn’t enough for Jaxon. Sofie knew the type of man Jaxon was. He wasn’t the settling sort of guy. He loved women, and she had made it too easy for him by caving in to the allure of his sex appeal and the electric tension that burned between them.

She had grown weak and had given in.

Well, no more.

She wouldn’t be one of many while on their vacation. If he wanted Bindy and any other woman on the island, then he could have them.

Sofie opened her eyes and pushed off the door. She was a grown woman and would be fine. She knew what she’d signed up for when she’d started messing around with Jaxon.

“He’s not the only person on this damn island who can have fun,” she muttered. She tossed her purse onto the dresser and kicked her shoes off. There were plenty of options on and off the island for her. They’d had their fun, and it was over. Time to move on.

No more late-night visits or burning up the sheets into the wee hours of the morning.

She might as well end it now. It would be best she started detoxing and getting Jaxon Keith out of her system.

“I am not going home with hurt feelings. This was a vacation fling,” she said. Hearing the words made her feel slightly better. She snagged her jammies from the dresser and paused. She could have sworn she heard a noise.

Was that someone knocking on her door?

“Oh, hell no. If he thinks he’s coming here after being with that bimbo, then he has another think coming.” Sofie tossed her clothes on the bed and stormed toward the front door. There would be no one else but Jaxon coming to her accommodation this late.

Sofie grabbed the handle and threw the door open. A growl rippled from her chest as she stared at Jaxon. He had the nerve to lean against the doorjamb with a cocky smile on his lips.

“Hey,” he said.
