I sigh, “For fuck sake.”
“I’m sorry,” he repeats, looking genuinely apologetic.
I nod, “That’s okay. I know there’s a reason why I can’t know these things yet, it’s just really fucking frustrating.”
“I know. I’m going to go and take a look at the book in the library and see if I can help you decipher it, and then I’m going to talk to some people and see if I can convince them to let me tell you at least a few things. I think you deserve to know.”
My eyes widen, “You would do that?”
“Of course. It’s going to take me a while, so you aren't going to see me for some time. Wallace is doing something at the moment as well so he isn’t going to be around but if you really need us call and he will come,” Winston explains.
I smile, “Okay, thank you.”
He nods, “No problem.”
Once he has disappeared, I’m left with thoughts swirling through my mind. I really hope that he is going to be able to convince someone to let him tell me something. I may actually get answers now instead of waiting fuck knows how long.
Right now though, I really need to try and get some sleep because we have to get to the training academy tomorrow super early and I am nervous as hell.
Of course, I toss and turn for a while, my mind refusing to quiet, before sleep finally claims me.
Chapter Thirteen
Neith
The next morning, I have a moment where I lie in bed and go over the events of the previous evening. My kiss with Camden was insanely hot. I absolutely don’t regret it, and I would do it again without a second's hesitation if the opportunity arose. However, I had a very, very good dream last night involving all of them, and we were all very naked.
It was fucking amazing, I’m not going to lie, but then everyone got really fucking angry, and everything fell apart. Including their friendships with each other. I would never forgive myself if that happened.
“Neith, breakfast is ready!” Van calls through the door.
“Coming,” I call back as I throw off the covers, grateful that I have been pulled from my thoughts. I need to tell the guys about what happened with Winston last night before I forget.
I spend far longer than I would like to admit, trying to decide what to wear so I make a good impression on the other agents and the students at the academy, this is a big deal. I finally settle on dark jeans, a dark red shirt, and my usual boots and jacket. I am still nervous that I might have it wrong until I get downstairs and see that the guys are all dressed pretty similarly to me.
My stomach growls loudly, announcing my presence to the guys before I manage to say good morning and making them all grin in amusement. I take my usual seat and smile when I realize that someone has been paying attention to what I’ve been eating for breakfast, and my favorites are all in front of me.
“Thank you,” I say to the table as a whole because I have no idea who actually did it for me. Before the conversation goes in an entirely different direction and I get distracted I add, “Winston came to see me last night.”
“Oh, why?” Van asks.
I frown, “I actually don’t know. I sort of derailed the conversation and ended up filling him in on everything that’s happened.”
Reed chuckles, “Of course you did. Did he have anything interesting to say about it all? Can he help decipher the book?”
“He said that he’s going to have a look at it and try,” I explain and then launch into my description of what he said.
“That would be amazing if he can help, you would finally get some proper answers instead of all of the half ones that we keep getting,” River says, excited for me.
“Hopefully, if he does manage it, he’s not going to leave you with more questions,” Raiden adds.
“Yeah, hopefully.” I reply and then change the subject as I ask, “So, what’s the plan for today?”
“We’ll show you around the training academy and introduce you to a few people that we actually like,” River says.
I smirk, “Actually like? Why does that sound like you don’t like many people there?”
River chuckles, “There are a few people we like.”
