Page 20 of Unwilling Mate

“Thanks for the ride,” Thorn murmurs before shutting the back door.

Levi doesn't waste any time getting out of these woods. His headlights swing around until all I see is the red two back lights of his truck vanishing into the forest.

“Let’s get you inside and warm, little mate. You had a long day.”

I press my ear against Thorns' brought chest, letting the rhythm of his heartbeat calm me, as he carries me into our cabin.

The moment we step into the living room Thorn’s arms tighten around me. “Someone is here,” he whispers.

“You disappoint me, Thorn,” an ominous voice comes from the darkest corner of the room. “You should have picked up my scent sooner. One more reason I was right to take the spot as the Alpha.”

Alistair.

My blood coils as my heart freezes in my chest. I fist Thorns shirt, seeking protection I don’t need to ask for. My mate immediately puts me behind him, shielding me from the threat.

“What do you want, traitor?”

Alistair finally emerges from the shadows, a mischievous grin plastered all over his face. “I want what I deserve.” He raises an arm, his finger pointing right at me. “I want her.”

THORN

“She is my mate!”I growl so loud Abbie must be able to feel the vibration of my voice.

“Then I guess I have to do the same thing to you I did to Lily.”

“You killed her?” I ask, even though I already know the answer.

“She chose the humans over me. Of course I killed her,” Alistair says as if it was the most natural thing in the world. I can’t believe I let this happen. I should have been alpha, instead I left my pack with him… a killer.

“Now the only question is, do you want a quick death or are you going to be difficult that I have to make you suffer?”

I can feel Abbie’s fear behind me and I wish I could tell her she has nothing to be scared of, because it will be me killing Allistair, that I’m sure of.

“Then we take this outside. I don’t want you to trip over furniture. I want it to be clear that you fell because I am the better wolf.”

Alistair looks at me and nods with confidence. We both know this is to the death. The insult was too severe for anything else. Alistair heads to the backdoor and I turn to Abbie.

“Listen, only one of us will be left alive. This will get ugly. So if you don't want to watch, I understand.”

Taking out her pad she writes three words that I will never forget. I’m with you. Reading it I bring her to my chest and kiss her forehead.

“You are just as fierce as any wolf little mate.”

Letting her go, I make my way out back to face Alistair. Stepping out of the door, I’m greeted with the sight of him already standing there naked.

“We do this as wolves, Thorn. As it was meant to be.”

I nod my head and begin to undress. In the old days, before we voted on who the Alpha was, you had to win the position by combat. The fight was to the death. Today it will be as well.

As soon as I finish, I turn to face him.

“Just so you know,” he taunts, “When I'm done with you, I plan on dragging her back and rutting her in front of the whole pack. Maybe even let them have a turn.”

My body reacts to the words before I even have time to process them. I’ve never turned so quickly in my life. Teeth bared, I run at him as fast as my legs can carry me.

He is barely able to get in wolf form before I’m on top of him, trying to tear his throat out. I feel teeth sinking into my ear and skin ripping away as I bit down as hard as I can trying to break his spine. A howl pierces the air as I bite down.
