My muscles ached from the battle the day before, but the pulsing between my legs was all consuming. The feel of his body against mine had left me confused and aroused.
Slowly, he turned to face me. His eyes blazed amber in the centre and his canines showed below his top lip. He was barely holding control over his wolf. I should be terrified. If it was any other wolf, I would be readying myself for a fight. Instead, my panties felt like they were going to combust into flames with the heat he generated from that one look.
“Why am I here, Levi?” Everyone knew I should be with the other vampires. The stares we’d received proved that.
“Because you belong to me.” His voice was husky.
I belonged to him, but he didn’t belong to me. If he did, he wouldn’t drag me around behind him. I would be at his side.
“Levi.” I held my hand up in front of me in an attempt to create a barrier because his presence left me weak and vulnerable. “We can’t keep doing this.”
He moved so fast he was in front of me before my brain followed his action, his fingers intertwining with mine. “Doing what?”
The weight of his stare stuck me to the floor, but I refused to meet his eyes. If I did, I would be hopelessly lost.
“This push and pull with each other. I’m yours but you don’t want me. Please, Levi.” I took a staggered breath. “Just let me go.”
Silence surrounded me in a blanket that began to smother me.
Levi’s hand slowly wrapped around my throat, the pressure forcing my head back as his eyes bored into mine. Step by step he walked me backward across the room until my back hit the wall. His fingers were still tangled with mine, and I found myself pinned against the wall by my hand and throat. His head lowered to mine until our noses touched and breath combined.
“A wolf only claims a mate once in their lifetime.” His voice was deep and husky. “That mark on your shoulder tells every wolf in this base that you belong to me alone. It means that I’ll kill anyone who touches you.”
My eyes fluttered closed as his lips teased mine with a delicate caress.
“There is no push and pull, Tasha. I am the alpha of this base, but I am also your mate.”
“You don’t want me,” I whispered, my heart fracturing even as I said the words.
“I’ve only ever wanted you from the moment you jumped out of a tree and bit me. There is no resisting what fate threw in my path.” His forehead touched mine, his eyelashes kissing mine.
My fingers grasped his as if they were a lifeline. “You keep pushing me away.”
“Not anymore.” His voice contained the deep growl that meant his wolf was close to the surface.
His hand at my throat angled my head before his lips crashed into mine in a kiss that scorched my soul. His tongue delved deep into the recesses of my mouth, demanding submission. I met his every stroke and caress, entangling in a kiss that stripped us both bare emotionally until there was nothing left but Levi and my desperate need for him.
Our lips spoke the words we’d never said, our tongues whispering secrets that only our souls knew. Gone was the aggressive alpha wolf, and in his place was the man who owned my heart and the essence of my soul.
His hand released my throat and trailed down my side until he reached my hip, dragging me impossibly closer to him, our pelvises aligned. Heat burned deep in my core as a wanton need ignited inside me. The nails of my free hand dug into his flesh and my fangs scraped his lip.
“You do realise if you bite me, you better be ready to get on your hands and knees?” Levi said against my lips.
I desperately wanted to sink my fangs into him and taste the delicious essence that belonged only to Levi. My lips trailed down his throat while he canted his head to the side to give me better access. My fangs had only grazed his skin when an obnoxious banging sounded on the other side of the door.
“I’m going to fucking kill whoever that is,” Levi said, adjusting himself in his trousers as he prowled to the door.
His second in command Radar nearly fell onto the floor when he went to knock again. Levi towered over him like an avenging dark god of destruction.
“I delivered the vamps to the safe house,” Radar said. “But you really need to get to the residency block before there is a riot.”
“Seriously?” Levi demanded, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“You can’t expect everyone to play nice after centuries of fighting.” Radar shrugged. His gaze finally found me still standing against the wall. His eyes widened since my lips were swollen and hair a mess.
“Fuck this,” Levi snapped, stomping out of the room.
Rolling my eyes, I followed him. He reminded me of a vicious storm gathering energy and debris as it tore through the countryside. Every step saw the man struggle to contain his beast, his wolf manifesting in the fur at the tips of his ears and his glowing amber eyes. His fingers elongated into claws and I swore his shoulders widened.
