This woman was my life, she was the light to complement my darkness that I’d been searching for without ever knowing what I needed.

“Thanks for bringing me home,” she said, kissing my chest.

I tugged her closer to me, tilting her head up.

“Love you, baby.” I pressed a soft kiss on her lips and closed my eyes, finally relaxing for the first time in days. This place was our sanctuary, far from the prying eyes of the rest of the world.

“Love you, too, Zee. Forever.”

Cassandra’s past was still there, waiting for us.

My problems would still be here tomorrow.

None of them mattered today.

I knew that together, we’d be able to face any storm life threw at us because we’d both saved each other in more ways than one. A long time ago my mum told me that love was the most important emotion in the universe, that it made your life complete. It had been lost from my life for a long time before Cassandra wandered in and reminded me what it felt like.

Her love was a golden sun, bringing warmth and illuminating the darkness.

She’d seen my darkness and wanted me anyway.

I’d finally moved from midnight into the daylight.
