Opening her mouth to ask how the others felt, she found she couldn’t utter a sound. She was aware enough to know she should be panicking, yet the emotions wouldn’t come.

Drugged. I’ve been drugged. I think.

There was no other explanation for it.

They’d been drugged, probably at the eatery.

“Oh…” Kenet groaned and suddenly fell to his knees, his head hanging down.

Her vision went loopy, making her want to retch, and she was struggling to keep her eyes open. On the other side of Kenet, she couldn’t see what was happening with Liana or Alek. She couldn’t lift her gaze enough to see.

“Oh dear, are you okay?” A sympathetic voice, far too loud, filled her ears, and Bella whimpered. She wanted to bring her hands up to cover her suddenly sensitive ears, but she couldn’t move her arms. They each felt like they weighed as much as her body, and her legs buckled underneath her.

A strong arm wrapped around her, holding her upright.

“Here, let me help you.” The voice was feminine, and the female lifted Bella easily, making her feel like she was flying through the air. She managed to make a small sound, but it was so quiet she doubted anyone but the female holding her could hear her. “We’ll get you taken care of, don’t you worry.”

Despite her words, there was a subtle tone of menace that did nothing to reassure Bella of her safety.

Drugged.

I’ve been drugged.

We’ve been drugged.

Did she do it?

“Got her?” The deep voice was masculine, roiling through Bella, doing something strange to her insides. She felt like retching again.

“Yes, and I think the Wolf was right. She’s definitely having a reaction to the drugs. She’s no Beta.”

The Wolf.

She should recognize that name. She should know what it meant, but sleep was clawing its way up out of the darkness, pulling her under despite her best efforts. She couldn’t even open her eyes again.

She’s no Beta.

The words pinged around her brain.

Of course, she was a Beta. She had to be a Beta. Because if she wasn’t a Beta…

“So is this one. What should we do with the other two?”

“Leave them.”

No!

Her emotions were so far away, but she knew what she should be feeling.

Panic. Terror. Loss.

It sounded like one more person was coming with her, wherever this female was taking her, but who? What did the reaction to the drugs mean?

What did they mean she wasn’t a Beta?

You know what it means,a little voice whispered through her mind as the darkness finally won, giving her blissful relief from the idea now rolling around her head.
