“What?”

“I… what else do you want me to do?”

“Nothing. You’ve done enough.” Sarcasm dripped from his voice.

Redmond stiffened, his eyes flashing angrily.

“Now see here, it’s not my fault I was captured!”

“Isn’t it, though?” Grigori snorted. “If you were better at what you do, you could have gotten that very little bit of information that you did and all without being captured.”

Drawing himself up, Redmond glared, taking a threatening step toward Grigori. He held his ground, a sneer curling his upper lip. He was not going to be intimidated by a mere pup like Redmond. The Beta was all bark and no teeth.

“You’d better watch how you speak to me,” Redmond threatened. “I bet Paldon would be interested in what I have to say, even if you aren’t. I deserve some respect. I deserve?—”

His eyes widened, hands going to his stomach, where he’d gotten exactly what he deserved—Grigori’s knife in his gut.

The Beta’s mouth worked soundlessly as Grigori pulled the blade free and stabbed him again, this time through the heart. The male hit the floor with a spasm as his eyes blanked out, wide and unseeing. Blood stained the two spots where Grigori had stabbed him, still seeping out even though his heart had stopped pumping.

Now, Grigori was going to have to take care of the body and find some excuse for Paldon as to why he had no information about Bella. Annoyed, he kicked Redmond’s body as he passed by it to go find something to roll it up in.

LIFE AS AN OMEGA

Bella

The door slid open, and both Trish and Bella froze, though Trish relaxed far faster than Bella did.

The big Alpha who stepped through the door was familiar but still frightening to her. Huge, broad-shouldered, his pale blond hair gleamed in the light. Icy blue eyes studied her and Trish before he held out his hand to the other Omega. Immediately, she hurried forward to take it.

Bella saw how Trish relaxed as soon as she touched him.

It seemed Bella was not the only one with mixed feelings about their captors. Whether that made her feel better or worse, she wasn’t sure. Both, in different ways, if she was being perfectly honest with herself. Her gut churned with the complicated mix of emotions, making her feel nauseous.

Or maybe that was just her hunger.

Her stomach growled, drawing the attention of both of them.

“Come,” Jordan said, lifting his gaze to pin Bella. Despite the way he cradled Trish’s hand in his, she could find nothing reassuring in the way he looked at her. With that one word, he turned, obviously expecting her to follow.

She only hesitated a moment.

To do more would be foolish. After all, what did she expect to gain by doing so?

This way, she was being let out of the room. She’d be able to see where she was, see more of the building. Whether or not that would help her find a way to escape, she couldn’t know, but it was more than staying in this room would do.

She hoped they were going toward food.

She wondered if the Wolf would be there.

Stop it.

But it was a natural thing to wonder, wasn’t it?

Perhaps. But the little kernel of desire to see him again felt wrong. Or it felt right, but it felt like it should feel wrong.

Bella did her best to stop thinking about it as Jordan led her and Trish into the hallway. It was a good thing she had not tried to get out on her own. The hall was busy, and there was an obvious guard posted at every corner. Not at high alert, lounging against the wall, they watched everyone pass… and their eyes tracked her despite the fact that she was with Jordan.
