When I come, I spill exactly as he said—all over my cock, his hand, and some falling onto my stomach.

James grunts and thrusts into me harder, his pace picking up until he’s panting and cursing above me, before shoving himself as deep inside my ass as he can. I close my eyes as he comes in me, feeling nothing but safe and protected in a way no one but this man has ever made me feel before.

When he pulls out and moves to get off the bed, I hold onto him. “No, it’s fine. Stay with me.”

He presses a kiss to my head. “Feeling a little vulnerable?”

“Just a bit. Don’t tell anyone.”

He chuckles. “Never, dear. What we do here is between you and me.”

Sighing, I relax against the bed, sleep quickly creeping in. Is it any wonder why I trust this man?

James holds me close and I sigh once more, trusting him to watch over me.

Enzo glares at me. “I don’t need a babysitter.”

“Oh, so you can get up and walk on your own? Your pain levels are manageable without meds? You’ll start therapy, and have accepted your new pace of life?” I hold his stare and watch the light dim in his golden brown eyes. “That’s what I thought. You’re staying here until you’re fully recovered—that means mentally and emotionally stable as well. Kail is going to be your full-time nurse. I need someone I can trust, not only helping me with the medical stuff, but considering he handles Roman and Tennant, he can handle your grumpy ass.”

I gentle my tone a little. “I know this is hard, and it’s going to take time for you to get used to everything and to process this life-changing event. But, it’s only been a week, Enzo. You have time for all that. Right now, I just need you to heal and let us do our thing to help get you to a more stable place.

“Kail being here is non-negotiable. He’s my assistant, and I can do whatever I want with him under those terms. He’s not a babysitter, he’s a helper, and damn good at his job. If I find out you’re not listening to his advice or accepting his help, I will go straight to Cristian.”

Enzo’s already pale face grows a little paler at my threat because he knows it’s not just idle words. Being reported to the Boss isn’t something anyone wants, but especially because they weren’t listening to medical advice. I might not know how other Families and organizations run their businesses, but I know Cristian takes the health of his people seriously; if they’re not well then they’re not effective.

“Mi comporterò bene, lo prometto,” he finally says.

“Good.” I check my watch. “I have a meeting soon, so I’m leaving you in Kail’s capable hands. Behave.” Turning to Kail, I say, “Call if you need anything, and don’t be afraid to put him in his place.”

Kail gives a sweet smile. “I’m sure we’ll be fine. Go, we’ll see you later.”

One last warning look at Enzo and I stride out of the room.

“You need a new assistant,”Cristian says.

“Absolutely not.” I glare at him from across the desk. “I agree we need someone who can do surgeries, and maybe give them an assistant or two, but I have my own and they’re perfect.”

“One of them is sidelined because you gave him to my son’s bodyguard. So for now, he’s out of commission, probably for longer than it takes for Enzo’s actual injury to heal. This is goingto change his entire life. You and I both know this will hit Enzo hard, in ways he hasn’t even thought about yet, especially since he’s so stubborn and devoted to his job. He’s not going to handle this change of life well. So, let’s assume Kail is occupied with that for the next little while, in which case, you need another assistant.”

I bite my tongue, since we both know I can’t argue with his logic. “Fine,” I finally spit out. “Who though? Last I heard, no one in the Family was studying in the medical field.”

His smile is dark and dangerous and doesn’t give me good feelings atall. “I have an idea. Trust me.”

Istare at the young man sitting across the desk. He has light blond hair, freckled cheeks, and shockingly bright blue eyes that, unlike Tennant’s cold and calculating icy blues, are full of life and mischief.

“Tell me why you’re here, Soren.”

“You know why.”

“Yes, but I want to hear it from you. What your uncle told me versus what you will, are two very different things.”

He seems to contemplate his words for a moment before replying. “You can look at me and know I am not fit for the Bratva,” he says slowly. “I am…too pretty for them, and that is the nicest way to put it.”

I understand what he means. While some people in my organization may not appreciate that I’m married to a man, or that my son is femme, they wouldn’t dare speak their minds, unless they have a death wish. While Petrov is a good man and ally, he is also only one man. The Bratva has stricter ideals and ways of living, and are more reluctant to change their minds. So I don’t blame Petrov for sending his nephew to me.

“Not only that, but I am gay. My uncle may accept me and understand, but if my father knew…” I nod in understanding when he trails off. Soren takes a breath before continuing. “I cannot be there. I love my uncle, and I love the friends I’ve made in his organization, but I don’t want to die at an early age because someone took offense to where I put my dick. I went to school to study medicine, decided I didn’t want to be a doctor, but I still wanted to be useful.”

I look down at his paperwork, though I have the entire file memorized already. “You are almost overqualified for the position, but we need someone with this degree of education. Our current medical assistants have both stated they do not want to go back to school.”
