“I’d say that was a success. Ten out of ten.” He tossed me a goofy grin. “No notes.”
“Cosigned.” I paused, my smile dropping a bit. “Did it answer anything for you?”
Isaac shrugged and shifted his hips so he could pull up his pants. “Sort of? I mean, I already figured I’d like blowing you considering how many times I’ve thought about it.”
I did the same, tucking my dick away in the process.
“But I honestly don’t know if it’s because it was you or if I’m into guys in general,” he continued.
“Yeah.” Disappointment and pride filled me at the same time, which was a strange combination. I liked hearing that he’d been just as rocked by the exchange as me, but it didn’t help either of us answer the burning question of our sexualities. “It’s the same for me. I loved every second of that, but I have no idea I’d feel the same if it was anyone except you.”
Slowly, like his legs were still a bit shaky, Isaac got to his feet. I did the same, and we kind of stood there, staring at each other.
The silence stretched, growing around us like a living thing until I could feel it pressing down around us.
“I guess we should go to bed?” I suggested, my cheeks flushing at how that could be taken multiple ways. “It’s getting late,” I added lamely.
“Yeah.” He rubbed the back of his neck. “I need to take a shower. Do you want to go first?”
“You go ahead.”
Great, now we were back to awkward and stilted.
“Thanks.” He shoved his hands in his pockets and rocked on his feet, the same way he did when he wanted to escape an uncomfortable situation. “I guess I’ll go do that.”
“Okay. Have fun. I mean, have a good night. And a good shower,” I babbled, waving at him like a dumbass.
“I’ll try.” The corners of his lips curled up in a smile. “Night.”
“Night,” I echoed, dropping my hand, and my eyes, with a silent curse.Way to not be awkward, dumbass.
“Jamie.”
I looked up at him.
“We’re okay.”
Relief filled me at not just his words, but also his reassuring smile.
Hooking up with my best friend was confusing. It was uncharted territory for both of us, but it didn’t have to be a big deal. I just needed some time to get my head in order, and everything would be fine.

“Why are you making that face?”
I looked up from the email I’d just finished reading on my phone. “What?” I asked Asa.
He tilted his head to the side and studied me curiously. “You look like someone just gave you a bag of rotten meat as a birthday gift.”
Grimacing, I waved my phone at him. “I’d prefer the meat over this.”
“That bad?” He unzipped his coveralls and pulled his arms free of the sleeves.
It was the end of the day. Asa and I were in the staff room getting ready to go home, and Zander was at his locker a few feet away.
Nodding, I put my phone on the shelf in my locker and yanked the zipper of my coveralls down.
