Shay beams.
“We’ll be getting toholessoon.” D’Angelo’s lips curl dangerously, “when Robyn opens my present. My main gift was the silver and diamond hair clip, but I have something saved for today as well. Then our Robyn will truly have the real surprise. Did you forget that I promised to plan something for your birthday? A special kink game? I never break a promise. But I may breakyouin the best way.” His voice drops, becoming dark and honeyed, “And we will be ravishing you. Are you ready for your final present?”
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
Captain’s Hall, Freedom
Robyn
I swallow,flushing.
When D’Angelo points at my final wrapped gift, which Shay is pushing into the middle of the rug along with the Wheel of Fortune, I settle down in front of it.
Eden edges behind me, pulling me between the V of his thighs.
I love the feel of his arm, as he wraps it around my waist.
I’m careful not to lean heavily on his ribs.
He watches me over my shoulder, when I spin the wheel. It makes a snicking sound, as the rubber flipper turns, hitting the stainless steel pins.
There are mysterious hand drawn pictures in each of the sections: panties, a candle, feather, and something that looks suspiciously like lightning.
What the hell is this game?
Did D’Angelo make this for me, despite how hard he’s been working?
Where has he been hiding it? He’s as sneaky as I am.
I’m naked, but warmth rushes through me.
Each of my men has thoughtfully made me something. There was a tiny part of my mind that was hard to suppress, which made me believe that they’d forget or use their money to buy me something meaningless.
But they haven’t disappointed. They never do.
“Well, that’s a goofy smile.” D’Angelo sprawls out further on the couch. “How do you know if you like it, when you haven’t opened it yet?”
“Because you made it for me,” I simply reply. “But aren’t Shay and you meant to be at practice in about an hour?”
D’Angelo’s gaze softens. “You’re more important than hockey, cara mia.”
“More important than any job,” Shay adds.
“I sent an email in my role as PA to coach.” Eden kisses behind my ear, and I shiver. “I requested medical leave from practice on account of their injuries. Mike sent in an official doctor’s report.”
My eyes widen. “What did Dad say?”
Eden’s expression becomes firm, but I notice the way that he glances at Shay, who is already looking guilty. “It doesn’t matter. I’m screening that from the players.”
Eden is taking his duty to protect our family seriously. He’s clearly decided that Dad is a threat.
I wish that I hadn’t come to realize that Eden is right.
I wish with all my heart that he wasn’t.
Yet Eden still doesn’t believe that he’s also worthy of being protected.
He is.
