Page 81 of Burn for You

“Ugh!” I groan flopping back down on the rug, my eyes focused on a small crack in the ceiling.

My insides feel like they might burst, like I might explode if I don’t get this out. I huff a sigh. “Rafael gave me the most earth-shattering orgasm of my entire life.”

“There it is!” Marina sits up. “That’s what we like to hear. Only earth shattering, or life altering?”

I push the heels of my hands into my eye sockets. “I’m starting to think it was more like life altering.”

Marina squeals, and as I finally look at the three of them, I see Leo and Isla exchanging cash. “Really?”

Isla shrugs. “Sorry, I didn’t think you’d really sleep with him.”

“I told you,” Leo smirks. “Hate sex.”

I groan again, forcing my body back so I’m staring at the ceiling again.

“Okay, okay.” Marina grabs my hands and yanks me back up to sitting. At this point I’m going to get whiplash.

“Let’s unpack this, you don’t look so pleased about said life altering orgasm.”

“Of course I’m not!”

Leo frowns. “Why the hell not?”

“It’s a long story,” Isla says, doing her best to divert the conversation away from me having to open up. I give her a grateful smile. It was a nice try, but I think I might want to open up. At least a little.

“I don’t do repeats. I don’t do relationships. I don’t do PDA and hand holding. I do one-night stands, no strings attached.”

“Okay…” Marina says. “I’m missing the problem here.”

I close my eyes. “The problem is that he called me the next day and we hadreally goodphone sex.”

“Phone sex can be good?” Marina asks.

I groan. “Reallygood. And then I absolutely lost my mind when we were beating the shit out of Olive&Vine with sledgehammers and told him way too much about my life while I was sobbing in his arms.”

“Oh, honey,” Isla says.

Leo pops the cork of the wine bottle and passes it down to me. “I think you might need that more than me.” I take it from him and take a swig from the bottle. When did I become such an alcoholic?

“It’s fine,” Marina says. “Rafael is the king of no strings attached; you’ll be fine.”

“Uhhh,” Leo starts, shaking his head. “I wouldn’t be so sure of that.”

“What do you mean?” I ask. My heart skipping a beat.

He looks hesitant, like he’s rethinking if he should’ve just opened his mouth.

“This is where you make good on your offer,” Marina pins him with a glare.

He sighs. “He got clammy as a clam when we tried to ask him about you.”

I frown at his shit attempt at a metaphor. “And what does that prove exactly?”

“Rafael, he…he’s not the one to usually keep his hookups under wraps. He doesn’t brag, that’s not what I’m saying. But the way he’s so tight-lipped about anything to do with you makes me think…okay, I don’t know what I think, but it’s something.”

Marina throws her hand up. “That was sooo helpful, Leo, thank you.”

“Also,” he says, cutting her a glare. “I’ve quite literally never seen him hold someone’s hand. But he held yours.”
