“Si?”
“What are you doing?”
He lets out a low groan. “What do you think I’m doing, May?”
“I want you to tell me.”
“I’m fucking my goddam hand, pretending like it’s your sweet little pussy wrapped tight around my cock, but it doesn’t feel quite the same.”
I moan, adding another finger inside of me as I imagine him on the other side of the line.
“Keep talking to me,” I say as I continue working my fingers inside of me. Feeling my muscles beginning to clench as I come closer to my release.
He grunts. “I can’t think of anything when you’re making those fucking sounds, blondie.”
“Oh,” I moan as my walls tighten around my fingers and my orgasm rolls through me.
I hear a “fuck” from the other side of the line, and I know Rafael just came with me.
I pant into the open space of my bedroom in the cottage and find myself wishing I was in his king-sized bed instead.
“So much for ‘this can never happen again,’ huh?” He pants a laugh on the other line.
I smack my forehead with my clean hand. Why the fuck did I pick up this damn phone?
“It was a two-time thing, okay?” He laughs like he doesn’t believe me. “Rafael, I just needed to get you out of my system, okay? And now I have, so we can go back to how we used to be.”
“Hating each other, you mean?” he asks. “That’s not gonna work for me. Now that I’ve got a taste of you, I don’t think I can remember how it feels to hate you.”
chapter twenty-six
RAFAEL
Happy tears streamdown my best friend's face as I pull him into a hug. The proposal went exactly how Caio wanted it to. Just the two of them in his penthouse with all of us here to celebrate. Bonus points that it’s Christmas day.
Isla was shocked, but she didn’t hesitate for a second before saying yes to marrying Caio. Those two will live out their sick little fairytale until the end, I’m sure of it.
“Sono così felice per te amico mio,” I say, congratulating him.
He smiles wider than I’ve ever seen and slings an arm over my shoulder. “How do you feel about being my best man?”
“Do I have to hold your bouquet?”
He laughs. “I think Leo suits flower boy a little better, don’t you?”
Leo curtsies for us and laughs break out in the room, most of them watery as the girls all have tears streaming down their faces, leaving trails of mascara in their wake.
“Oh, one more hug, bambino mio!” Vanessa captures Caio’s arms in another suffocating hug that he reciprocates.
She kisses him on the cheek before she claps her hands together, addressing the rest of us. “I think we need cake, no?” Everyone beams at the idea of Vanessa’s desserts.
Leo is the first out the door following Vanessa, the guy is a sucker for a sweet treat, quickly followed by Heath.
Isla squeals as Caio sweeps her up into his arms and carries her out the door, leaving just me and May standing in the empty room.
Ever since that phone call it’s like we’ve been playing a game.
A game that I hate.
