She could understand that. It resonated with her on a bone-deep level.

Logan was just exiting the cafeteria as she crossed the hall.

“How was your session?” he asked, brushing her cheek with a kiss.

“It was good. Very good. I feel like she really clarified some things for me.”

“Does that mean you’re feeling better?”

“Much better. I also realize I have some work to do before the feeling better really sinks in and stays. I might want to see her again while we’re here, and I think I should find a good therapist when we get home. I know you’ve seen them at the VAafter difficult periods in the service, and right after you retired. I honestly don’t know why it never occurred to me to do the same. I had the support group for military wives over the years, but that really only touches on so many topics.”

“Whatever you need, baby. I’m so glad it helped. You look so much more relaxed already.”

“I am. Definitely. I feel like a weight’s been lifted from my shoulders, on several levels. Just saying a few things out loud was super helpful, and she’s such a good listener. Great with suggestions, too. This was absolutely the right thing for me. Thank you for thinking of it, for knowing me so well, babe.”

“Anything for you, darlin’.” He wrapped an arm around her waist and they moved through the main lobby. “So, they’re showing a movie tonight. It’s one of the Marvel films. I feel like your body needs some rest before we play again, and a night together just relaxing would be good for us. I was thinking a quiet dinner before the movie, then after we can get in the hot tub with a glass of wine and just chill. What do you think?”

“I think that sounds perfect.”

CHAPTER 6

Sitting together in the dark watching the movie last night was exactly what they’d needed. Logan had taken Rubi’s hand, and her warm fingers had curled around his and stayed there until the film was done and the lights had come up. One more thing they hadn’t done in too long.

He’d ordered Rubi to stay in bed this morning and read whatever she had on her Kindle while he went to meet with Derek. There was something about him that made Logan feel like he could trust him completely. And as much experience as he’d had dominating Rubi when they were younger, he knew he was in some unfamiliar territory now.

When he got to Derek’s office, the petite brunette dressed in a fuzzy baby-blue onesie and bunny slippers that he’d come to find out was Derek’s wife, and his Little, was just coming out.

“Oh! Hi, Colonel! My Daddy said to go right on in,” she announced.

“Ah, thank you, Sadie.”

He gave her a smile and opened the door.

Derek was at his desk when Logan came in, but he got up right away, extending a hand. “Have a seat.”

Logan settled into a chair on the other side of his desk, and Derek sat back down.

“What can I do for you, Colonel?”

“Logan, please. No formalities necessary here.”

“Logan, then. So, tell me what I can help you with.”

“Well, you know how we were talking the other day? Rubi has been to see Catherine Denten, and I think it helped her a lot. We’re both grateful that you have a psychologist on staff. But to be honest, I feel like I should be looking after myself, too, so that I can be the best Dominant possible for her. I could really use a chance to brush up on my flogging skills. I haven’t Florentined in years. Do you happen to have a tutor available?” he asked. “And my left shoulder has been giving me some trouble, so I may need to get to your gym and work the stiffness out a bit if I’m gonna throw two floggers. Do I need to check in at the front desk to get into the gym?”

“Nope, it’s available to any of our guests. I could benefit from working out a little more myself, and I’d be more than happy to join you in the gym today, if you like. And then to help you with Florentine practice.”

“You sure you have time with running this whole place?”

Derek smiled. “That’s what good help is for, and I’ve definitely been slacking on my workouts. Plus, I kind of get the feeling you need to talk.”

Logan nodded as a sense of relief came over him. “Yeah, the truth is, I could use some Dom-to-Dom time, and not just for flogger practice.”

“Great!” Derek glanced at his watch. “How about I go change and meet you there in about twenty minutes? I’ll bring my floggers for after, too.”

“Sounds good.”

The time in the gym with Derek had been exactly what Logan had needed. Derek was such a good guy. So easy to talk to. Logan had confided a little more about what was happening with Rubi and their relationship, as well as their kink dynamic, and the longer they talked, the more Logan realized he’d needed more than advice. He’d needed a trusted ear, a way to just to get it out of his system—all the worries he’d sat on for such a long time. To say the words to someone he was so comfortable with, someone who wasn’t Rubi, because he was afraid of scaring her or making her feel bad. And Derek did make a really great suggestion regarding Logan’s plans for Rubi in the Dungeon that night.
