“I love you,” I murmured against his lips. “All those years… I spent them waiting for you.”
The admission felt right. It was true.
“I love you, Nightingale,” he rasped as his body shuddered against mine, both of us breathing hard.
He moaned my name as he dropped his forehead to my neck and emptied himself inside me with short, jerking thrusts. Everything about this man felt right. My arms wrapped around him, my legs around his waist, I closed my eyes and felt home.
Daniel was my home.
* * *
We pulledup in front of his penthouse and my eyes wandered around. This place was a dream bachelor pad.
As if he could read my thoughts, Daniel murmured, “I never bring women here.”
I titled my head. “Why?”
He shrugged his shoulder. “I don’t like strangers in my space.” Somehow it didn’t surprise me to hear it. He was always private and closed in. “With you, it feels right and I want to make you part of every aspect of my life. I don’t want to keep a single part of me a secret from you. I want you to infiltrate every aspect of my life.”
God this man was everything. “I feel the same,” I said, pressing my palm against his cheek. “You and my family are the best part of this life.”
I loved every part of him. His ruthless ways, his past, his present… every single part. He turned his head into my palm and pressed a tender kiss then exited the car.
I watched him go around and open the door for me. His eyes scanned the area, a habit probably.
“Where is Mikey tonight?” he asked the building valet that stepped forward to take the car.
“Sick, sir.”
Daniel frowned, his hand extended to me.
“This is where you stay most of the time?” I questioned him as he helped me out of the seat.
He turned around to face me.
“Yes,” he told me. “I have a place outside the city but this is more convenient when I work late.” I nodded. It made sense, though I didn’t like the idea of not spending every night together.
“I hope you won’t work late too much,” I muttered. “I don’t like the idea of not seeing you every day.”
His eyes flickered with amusement. “Really?”
I nodded seriously. I wanted a home life with a family that I’d see every day. A husband to see every day and eat dinner with every day, then watch a movie with before we fall asleep.Or surrender to our passion,I mused.Holy shit, I just thought of him as my husband!
“Then I’ll be sure I’m always home for dinner and our bedtime, Ainslee.” Though he said it lightly, there was seriousness in his eyes, and I believed he’d ensure he was always there. Crap, I loved him so much, it actually scared me a bit.
I smiled. “Sorry, I guess my dreams kicked in.” My eyes darted away from him, hoping to get my composure back. Because I thought he’d see it in my eyes how badly I wanted to be his, in every sense. He took my chin between my fingers and pulled my face to him.
“Don’t apologize,” he told me, his tone serious. “I want those same things. To see you every day, wake up next to you, go to bed with you in my arms, and see our children grow up. I want it all too. But just with you.”
A little sigh left my lips. “I love you, Daniel. Are you sure-”
“There is no other woman for me,” he cut me off, without an ounce of doubt in his eyes nor his voice.
My insides melted and every part of me started flying high with every word uttered. He was giving me all I wanted.
Then I saw it and my eyes widened, and I opened my mouth to warn him, push him out of the way as I watched as in slow motion a man brought down a bat to Daniel’s head.
Fuck!
