I pressed a kiss on her lips. “You’ll wear it, and I’ll take it off of you.” I moved my lips and nibbled on her earlobe. “This gift will be the only thing you wear as I fuck you. And I want you to wear it all the time.”

Her fair skin turned crimson, and I smiled smugly at her reaction. I loved seeing her flushed.

I handed her the last gift. “Here, open it.”

She fumbled through it and finally opened it. Her eyes widened. It was a sapphire necklace set in a platinum setting. The color of the sapphire reminded me of her eyes. I’ve had it for years. I bought it during one of my tours, when I passed through Greece. The only alteration I’ve done was to insert a tracking device into it recently. I debated whether I should tell her or not but I didn’t want to keep secrets from her. Not if I could help it.

“Oh my God,” she whispered, her eyes wide. “That is-” She struggled for words. “That is beautiful. I don’t know if I can-”

“I got it several years back,” I told her. “And I only bought it because the sapphire reminded me of your eyes. So don’t even think about telling me you can’t accept it.”

Her eyes shimmered with tears she held back. Unlike me, she was very open with her emotions. I always loved that about her.

“Thank you,” she murmured. “I will always wear it.”

She took it out of the box and unclipped it. I never thought I’d see it around her neck. I hoped, but if I was being honest, I thought it was a fool’s hope.

“Here, let me help you put it on.” I took her necklace from her delicate fingers and came up behind her. She lifted her hair, her scent drifting all around me. I inhaled deeply, her fragrance intoxicating.

Once clipped together, she turned around. “How does it look?”

“Beautiful.” Though it didn’t compare to her beauty. “I had a tracking device inserted in it.”

The admission left my lips effortlessly, but the moment I told her, I knew it was a mistake. Her awed, soft expression turned into confusion and then agitation.

“Why would you do that?”

“So I can track you.”

She went to unclip it, but I put my hand over hers, pulling it down. “Ainslee, leave it.”

“Why the tracker?” she rasped. “What kind of bullshit is that?”

“It is for your safety,” I told her. “Only for emergencies. It will help me sleep better at night knowing I can find you.”

She eyed me pensively, so many different emotions passing her expressive, stunning blue eyes. There was agitation, worry, resignation, doubt in them.

“I thought you said you can keep us safe,” she muttered finally.

“I can,” I assured her. “But I’m not a fool, unexpected things happen. I’m taking every precaution necessary to keep you safe. Your safety and that of your family, is my top priority.”

“I don’t know, Daniel,” her voice was full of doubt and it hit me kind of wrong.

“I’m asking you to wear it for me.”

She wasn’t trying to take the necklace off anymore. “What are you going to do? Put a tracker on all of us and control everything we do.”

“No, that is not the intent of it. It is for your safety. If something happens to you, I’d-”

What would I do? Lose my fucking mind. I let her go once but to lose her again, it would break me. She was all that mattered to me, the only light in my life that kept me going.

“Maybe you can’t keep us safe,” she murmured, and it was as if she was talking to herself.

The agitation flared in me. I wasn’t accustomed to being disobeyed. I could see stubbornness and doubt written all over her face, and I refused to ruin the day. I understood she was an independent woman, but I wouldn’t risk her safety for the flare of her independence. Or her doubt. She should fucking trust me on this.

“The tracker stays,” I told her in a firm voice. “I have some work to do this morning.”

I strode away before she could say another word.
