The officer’s lip curled up. “Sir, I’m going to have to ask you to leave.”
Ryker raised his voice. “My girlfriend is being harassed by some lunatic, and something needs to be done about it!”
Two other officers came from the hallway to our left. They eyed Ryker warily, then directed their attention to the asshole behind the desk. “Rick, you okay out here?”
Rick gave us a smug smirk and crossed his arms over his chest. “I asked this guy to leave, but he’s refusing.”
The two officers loosely placed their hands on their gun holsters, giving Ryker an unspoken warning.
“Ryker, let’s go.” I grabbed his forearm and tugged him toward the exit.
His muscles tensed beneath my hand. “I’m not leaving until I get some answers,” he gritted out.
“If you don’t leave right now, I’ll be forced to arrest you for failure to obey a police order.” Rick threatened.
I pulled on his arm again. “Ryker.”
He wrenched his arm away. “Fine. Let’s go.”
I rushed to keep up with him as he stormed out. When we got to where we were parked, he punched the door of his truck and roared angrily. “God, that was such fucking bullshit!”
He paced back and forth beside our vehicles. “If you get anymore threats, I’m going to come back up here and force them to do something. I don’t care if I get arrested.”
Fear slithered through me. That was exactly what I was afraid of.
Ryker stopped and our eyes met. “Don’t worry. I’ll take care of everything from now on. Next time you get a call or text, you let me know immediately, okay?”
I swallowed the lump in my throat. “Okay,” I lied. There was no way I was going to tell him anything else and risk him getting arrested. I decided to keep everything to myself like I’d originally planned. Ryker was too hot-headed when it came to me. I was going to have to deal with it myself.
When I returned to work, my head painfully throbbed throughout the remainder of the day, making me feel like my skull was going to explode. Knots formed in my stomach, elevating my nausea, and I did the best I could to block everything out by immersing myself in all the presentations and documents I was so behind on.
When it was time for me to clock out, I was caught up on my work. I was exhausted, but also relieved to have been able to zone out for a while without worrying about Kamden, the man harassing me, or my possible pregnancy. Not to mention the new worry of Ryker getting arrested.
As I hopped in my car, my next destination caused me to think about how Ryker might react if I was pregnant.
Will he be angry? Happy? Disappointed?
Closing my eyes, I rubbed my temples as I sat in my car. There was so much shit going on that I couldn’t even began to analyze how Ryker would feel. I couldn’t even decipher my feelings because my mind and emotions were so jumbled.
Taking a deep breath, I started my car. I told myself not to worry when I wasn’t sure yet. I had enough to stress over without adding something on top that might not even be an issue. I’d deal with it once I was positive.
I stopped at a drug store on the way home from work to pick up a pregnancy test. Standing in the aisle, I stared at the shelves of all the various pregnancy tests and started to get a little overwhelmed.
Which one do I choose?
I dug my phone out of the bottom of my purse and called Nori. “Hey girl, what’s up?”
“Guess where I am,” I said as I scanned over the boxes.
She chuckled a little. “Alaska.”
I snorted. “I’m staring at the million pregnancy tests they have available. How the fuck am I supposed to choose one when there’s so many different options?”
Nori’s laughter echoed through the phone. “Just pick one, Ky. They’re all the same.”
“But I want to pick the best one. Not some cheap one that might not be accurate.”
“Well, then you’re going to have to read the boxes and see which one is the most accurate.”
