“Some of the prospects saw a few of Matteo's men in town,” Dead Man informed me at our weekly church.

I nodded. I'd expected him to send scouts after the message I'd given. “Have Trey and Deuce tail 'em. I want to know who they're talking to and what they're doing. If they take a shit, I want to know about it.” We needed to be prepared in case they wanted a war.

Dead Man chuckled with a nod. “You got it, Pres.”

“Good news is we found another jeweler. The prospects tested the merchandise and approve.” Everyone glanced at Trey and Deuce, and they both gave two thumbs up. The guys let out a collective chuckle. “Plus, they're giving us a hell of a good deal. We have an exchange set up for this weekend. AK, I want you to dig up all you can on them before we get into bed with them.”

“On it, boss.”

After discussing a few more minor issues, I concluded church. Dead Man pulled me aside as everyone else went separate ways. “Can I talk to you in private?”

My brows furrowed as I wondered what he wanted to talk about since we'd just finalized our business. “Yeah, let's step into the office.”

Once we were behind closed doors, I leaned back against my desk. “Speak freely, brother.”

“One of the prospects mentioned that they heard the cartel scouts asking about a redhead from LA.”

My blood started to boil, and I clenched my fists, trying to keep my anger at bay. The thought of them touching Dixyn made my gut tense. “What?” I gritted out.

“They weren't able to hear more without being made, but I thought you might want to know.”

My mind started running a mile a minute, trying to figure out what the cartel wanted with Dixyn. I hadn't heard of Apache making any bad deals, and we knew everything that the Forsaken were up to. “Have Trey confirm that it's her and find out what they want with her.”

Dead Man nodded. “Sure thing, boss.”

He turned to open the door, but I stopped him. “And Dead Man?”

He looked back at me. “Yeah, boss?”

“Don't tell anyone else about this. Just you, me, and that prospect.”

He nodded. “Okay.”

An urge to find Dixyn overcame me. Even though I'd ended things a couple of weeks back, I hadn't stopped thinking about her. I'd fucked a few other chicks, but all I could think about when I was inside them was her. They didn’t feel as good and it took me twice as long to get off.

Not only did I want to see her and feel that tight cunt wrapped around me, but I suddenly had this instinctive need to protect her. The thought of any cartel scum putting their hands on her made rage simmer through me. If they touched one hair on her pretty head, I was going to rain down hell on them.

We kept tabs on all the Forsaken, and now that included Dixyn. We had phone numbers, addresses, frequent hangouts, and known associates. We didn't have much on Dixyn since she'd just moved back, but I knew she'd just gotten a job at one of the casinos. I planned to pay her a visit to make sure she was okay.

I decided to hit the casino solo so I didn't have to hear any shit from the guys. Cowboy, Dead Man, Kojack, and AK knew something was going on between Dixyn and me, and I didn't want them asking questions.

I entered the building and headed for the main floor, hoping I'd be able to find her quickly. It was during the day on a Sunday, so it wasn't too packed, but the casino was huge. And with all the machines and tables, it wasn't the easiest to pick people out.

I decided to sit at a slot machine in the center of the main floor and see if I could spot her. If we were both on the move, it would be more difficult to find her, and I didn't want to be at the casino all day.

Several minutes passed and a few waitresses passed by, but no sign of my redhead.

I took out a cigarette and lit it before taking a long drag to temper my impatience.

“You looking for Dee?”

The voice sounded familiar, so I turned to place it. Standing a few feet away was Dixyn's friend from the strip club. “Yeah. You work here too?”

She smiled. “Got her the job.”

I wasn't one for small talk. I took another drag of my cigarette. “You know where she is?”

The pretty brunette pursed her lips to the side in thought. “I think her section is over by the roulette and craps tables today.”
