Glancing around, I tried to spot them—and it didn’t take long, since Devon was already making his way toward me. He was grinning, and he pulled me into a hug when he got close enough.
“Congratulations,” he murmured into my ear, and I knew he was talking about more than just the shoot being wrapped up.
“Thanks,” I replied, gently extricating myself from his arms—it wasn’t unusual for everyone to get a little touchy-feely on the last day of shooting, but I didn’t want to attract any more attention to myself than I already had. “Do you know where Taylor and Lee are?”
“Right here,” Lee cut in, approaching from the other side, Taylor next to him. Taylor greeted me with a slight nod, and Lee flashed me a smile. “Why? You want all three of us?”
“Something like that,” I replied, my stomach twisting into knots inside of me. “I was…I was hoping you guys would come back to my place, actually.”
Lee’s eyebrows shot up. “Oh, yeah?” he remarked, leaning in, that cocky smile spreading over his face. “For what, exactly?”
“To talk,” I replied, though I could feel a fluttering in my chest at his sudden closeness.
“To talk,” he repeated after me, eyebrow cocked. “Just to talk?”
“Lee, keep it in your pants,” Taylor replied calmly. “I can’t speak for these guys, but I’ll go, Maya.”
“Me too,” Devon cut in.
“And if you think I’m missing out, you’re crazy,” Lee replied. “Come on. Let’s get out of here. I don’t want to get stuck in a conversation with the producers, anyway…”
And just like that, we were heading back to my place—Taylor driving, Devon in the front, and Lee beside me, his arm draped over the back of the seat and fingers trailing against the side of my neck. Even now, his touch was electric, sending a fire through me I could barely contain.
But this wasn’t about our physical relationship. At least, not tonight. No, this was about finally figuring out what we meant to each other, before the movie was done for good and we went our separate ways.
Back at my apartment, Devon glanced around at once.
“Is Matty here?”
“He’s with one of my friends,” I replied. “I—I wanted tonight to be just the four of us. We have a lot to talk about.”
“Yeah, we do,” Taylor replied. I couldn’t get a read on his tone, exactly. I knew he still had every right to be pissed with me after I’d hidden the pregnancy from him, but I hoped he would be willing to at least entertain the idea of talking this out now he was here.
“Like what?” Lee asked, frowning, clearly confused. Neither of the others had spoken to him about the pregnancy, which was something of a relief. I wanted to be the one to tell him about it, and I didn’t want him to have to find out the news via some secondhand source.
“Let me make us some dinner,” I replied. “And we can chat about it over that, huh?”
“I’ll handle it,” Taylor replied. “Sit, Maya. You need your rest…”
“Why, what are you planning to do to her later?” Lee teased, and that heat bubbled within me again. No, this wasn’t about that, not tonight—no matter how tempted I might be.
“Lee,” Taylor warned him, and Lee chuckled.
“Hey, just saying what we’re all thinking. But I guess I can make it through dinner before we start with any of that…”
We all helped serve up dinner. It was a tight fit, the four of us in the kitchen, but it felt right at the same time—Lee pouring the wine, Taylor over the stove, Devon getting the plates out of the cupboard. Both Devon and Taylor seemed intent on making sure I didn’t do anything more than I absolutely had to, and I wasn’t going to complain. It had been a long time since I’d been fussedover like this, and I had to admit, there was something to be said for it.
By the time we were all sitting around the table, my nerves had almost gotten the better of me again. I didn’t know where to start, what to say, but I knew I had to get to it. I might only have this evening to come clean, and I didn’t want to screw up my chances by holding back.
“I’m so glad you’re all here tonight,” I began, as I wrapped my hand around the glass of water I had poured for myself. I couldn’t help but notice my fingers trembling as I glanced between all three of them—three movie stars, sitting at my dining table, like it was the most natural thing in the world. All of them willing to give me a chance to explain myself, even when I wasn’t sure I deserved it. Even with all the mistakes I’d made, everything that I had screwed up, all the decisions that I wished I could go back in time and change.
Whether or not I had earned this chance, I knew I had to take it. Finally, I forced myself to speak.
“I know that everything I’ve shared with the three of you hasn’t exactly been…conventional,” I began. I had been practicing this in my head all day, going through exactly what I was going to say when the time came, but even now, the words tumbled out in a panicked rush. “Devon, we were together so many years ago, and we had a son you didn’t even know about. Lee, I thought you were just some player trying to find another woman to entertain yourself with. And Taylor, I didn’t even know you were a dad, let alone to such a sweet little girl. And…”
I looked between them again.
“And sharing this time with you has made for some of the best months in my entire life,” I confessed. “I didn’t expect to fall for all of you the way I have, but I…I can’t deny it anymore. I don’t want to. Especially not…not with the pregnancy.”
