“It is a first for me and I intend to keep you safe as best as I can. It’s coming to the holiday season, and people are crazy on the roads.”

Taking a deep breath, she tried to level out her frustration. “I happen to be a careful driver.”

“I’m worried about the others.” As if on cue, someone cut directly in front of him, causing him to stomp on his brake. Cursing viciously, he whipped around to make certain she was okay and really considered going after the son of a bitch. But he managed to resist the urge. He was carrying precious cargoes, and he had to remember that.

“See what I mean?”

“That was …” She threw up her hands in defeat and settled back in the butter soft seat. She knew he usually preferred to ride his motorcycle but was making an exception for her. She was trying to appreciate his concern.

“I can ask Michael to take me to retrieve my car.”

He glanced over as he swung into the parking lot of her building.

“Then we would have a bitch of an argument which would include a third party.”

“Is this how it’s going to be?” She demanded, jerking at her seatbelt. “You say jump and I ask how high? If that is the case…”

“Go on,” he invited softly, “why don’t you finish that sentence?”

Glaring at him, she shoved the door open and got out, slamming it hard. She had almost reached the entrance of the building, when he caught up with her and handed her the lunch bag.

“I am sure you would not want to offend Jack by not eating the food he prepared specifically for you. And you forgot something else.” Hauling her into his arms, he kissed her until she was vibrating with need.

“Call me when you’re ready.” With that, he turned and walked back to the car.

Wheeling around, she marched into the foyer, her body vibrating from more than temper.

He was whistling to the upbeat tune playing inside his vehicle and for once, did not mind the mad early morning traffic that led to the corporate office uptown. And it occurred to him that thiswas a first for him. Usually, he would be zipping along on his bike, impatient to get to wherever the hell he was heading.

But this morning he was driving a jeep. He laughed softly at the wonder of it. And it all had to the do with the infuriated woman he had left at the entrance of her building. He knew there was going to be hell to pay later, but he was looking forward to it.

Arguing with her got his juices flowing and he intend to follow it up by some very steamy makeup sex.

He loved her. And playing house – Good Christ! He was setting up house with her. Before now, he would have pitched a fit if someone even suggested they wanted to share his space. Now, he looked forward to it.

He had taken a shower and seen her things on the counter. When he opened his closet, her clothes were hanging right next to his. He need to make some changes and would probably have to find a house suitable for raising two children.

And most of all, he wasn’t freaking out about it.

He loved taking care of her. Loved the fact that he woke up with her this morning next to him on the bed.

He had made her tea and would have found pleasure making her breakfast. How strange was that? He should have been running in the opposite direction. Yes, he was still running scared, but at least, he was not hightailing it out of town.

Shaking his head, he touched the turn signal and drove into the large parking lot of the corporate building. He was even looking forward to the tedious board meeting. When the dust had settled and she was not quite so steamed, he would call and check on her. But for now, he would stay clear. She was angry enough to bite his bloody head off.

He chuckled softly as he recalled the look on her beautiful face.

“You look very pleased with yourself.”

He looked up from the list he was perusing and waited until his mother had walked in and closed the door behind her.

“I need your input.”

“Really?” She sounded pleased as she moved towards the desk. The fact that he was still here after the board meeting was an exceptionally good sign. And he had made his own contributions to the meeting which had the men staring at him in surprise.
