Her heart started pounding the moment the door of the blue elevator slid closed behind them.

Adam turned to face her, gripping her waist and drawing her against his solid frame. He bent his head. She stood on tiptoe. His mouth met hers gently, like a first hello.

His lips languidly explored hers. She kissed him back, feeling dizzy, dimly realizing that the elevator was taking a very long time to reach his floor.

She glanced at the panel. It was dark.

“You didn’t press the button,” she murmured, smiling against his mouth.

Without even looking, Adam reached around to punch it, hardly missing a beat as he brushed his lips against the corner of her mouth.

The elevator doors parted. He took her hand, his thumb stroking her palm as he led her down the hallway. The lock hummed open, he guided her inside, and there she was again, entering this penthouse. What a difference twenty-four hours could make.

He closed the door with his foot, then turned to face her. She sought the buttons of his jacket. Undoing them slowly, she slipped her hands along his sides and let her fingers slide over his muscular waist, inhaling deeply, unable to get enough of his intoxicating scent.

His chest rose and fell under her palms. His heart beat, strong, against her fingertips. She gripped his lapels, molding her body to his. Opening under his soft lips again, she savored the taste of him and felt the unmistakable evidence of his arousal. She pushed into him, and he countered, pressing her closer.

He broke the kiss.“Still want to watch that movie?”

She shook her head.“You.”

His lips drifted, brushing over her jaw, then lower, to kiss her clavicle.“Me?”

“You.”

“Tell me,” he murmured against her neck.

“I want—” his fingers were digging into her backside now, pressing her even harder into him; he rolled his hips “—you,” she finished on a gasp.

“You’ve got me,” he said and swept her up into his arms.

The door clicked closed behind them.

He set her down.

Tipping back her head, Eve smiled up at him.“Hi.”

“Hello.”

His voice was deeper than usual. It seemed to vibrate right into her body. He found her nape, stroking ever so lightly. Her heart rate spiked. How could the mere touch of his fingertips make her feel this way?

Glancing around, Eve perceived charcoal walls, masculine dark wood furniture, and a black pinstripe comforter, but the most powerful thing in his bedroom was his scent.

It almost overwhelmed her.

So did he.

Here she was, alone with him again. Only, this time, there was so much more: light, and the sight of him, and myriad feelings stirring deep inside her. There was the quiet and the sound of their ragged breathing.

Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a single candle burning on the nightstand beside his bed.

She ran her hands over Adam’s chest, feeling the softness of his shirt, fingering the pearled buttons.“Take off your jacket.”

Without a word, Adam shrugged out of it. He tossed it behind him to a black leather storage ottoman at the foot of his bed, then turned to reach for her, gathering her close.

He took her mouth with hot deliberation. She braced her palms against him, feeling her mind and her entire body begin to tilt and spiral. Her hands roved down his back, brushing against the leather of his belt, then up again, nails raking lightly. He shuddered. She broke the kiss and tipped backward a little, reaching for his tie. Nimbly, she unknotted it but left it loose around his neck.
