“You feel so good. Come again. I need to feel your sweet juice coating my cock.”
My body reacted to his sultry tone, another orgasm sweeping through me.
“Oh…”
“My good girl. My very good girl.” As his body stiffened, I stared into his eyes. His breathing was ragged, his strokes even harder and faster, hunger fueling the powerful man. There was no denying the connection. There was no sense in running.
He’d only hunt me down.
Havros threw his head back with a loud roar. The sound of a beast who’d captured his prey. He continued driving his hips forward, filling me so completely I rode another wave of bliss. His thrusts became even harder, picking up the momentum. His jaw clenched, his mouth twisting, and the sudden feel of hot liquid erupting deep inside caused me to turn my head. I couldn’t look into his eyes any longer for fear he’d see right through me.
He collapsed on top of me, the full weight of him sucking the air out of me. I was still tingling, but the emotions rolling through me overpowered the joy of our shared memories. Now the worry and frustration crowded in. Nightmares were real, demons always lurking in the shadows. That’s all I could think about as I stared at the man I loved.
I closed my eyes, barely aware he’d lifted his head until I heard his husky whisper. “Why did you try and leave me, kitten? Why?”
“I already told you. I’m afraid of you and what you’ll do.”
“Don’t lie to me, Kara. I know you too well. There’s another reason you left and you are going to tell me. Please. Don’t do this. Trust me.”
I’d always told myself I could never trust him, but I did with my life.
And my heart.
I finally opened my eyes, staring into his. Nothing between us was real, the weeks spent together a blissful fantasy. At least I’d thought so. The ache in my heart was more intense than before. As I opened my mouth to finally give him the answer he wanted, tears slipped down both cheeks, rolling ever so slowly toward the sheets.
“I love you, Havros, but this can’t work. It just… can’t.” Even as I was denying him with words, a post-orgasm haze washed over me. Every inch of my body continued to tingle.
“Why. Tell me why.” He smoothed hair from my face, darting his eyes back and forth. “I deserve to know.”
“Because,” I choked out. “Because…” Once again, I squeezed my eyes shut and blurted out the truth.
The horrible, damning truth.
CHAPTER 2
Six weeks prior
Kara
Everything was going perfectly for me.
The plane had arrived on time even though the turbulence had forced at least six people to barf. The hotel was gothic with its arched windows and carved woodwork. The location was within walking distance of almost everywhere I needed to go. Even my luggage had made it without any issue. However, the cherry on top was my agent confirming the highly anticipated appointment for the next day.
I was ecstatic, almost giddy from lack of sleep and anticipation. I’d pushed myself out into the world for a solitary celebration.
Greece.
White sand beaches. Colorful cafés. Interesting people.
Amazing food and wine.
Every aspect of the Kolonaki was eclectic and vibrant. The relentless heat of the day had shifted into ocean breezes tickling the various bistros and shops lining the cobblestone streets. The entire area was alive, crackling with vibrant energy. Even the noise of music streaming from several businesses, loud conversations, and the typical street sounds kept me invigorated after my long flight.
I was more relaxed than I’d thought possible, enjoying the gorgeous colors of the sky as sunset made its way into twilight. Bright stars already filled the sky, the partial moon creating spectacular shadows. With a glass of wine in my hand, and my notebook on the table while sitting on a quaint patio filled with celebratory patrons, I found myself blissfully at peace.
Tomorrow was an entirely different story. While I was excited at the prospect of what the day would bring, I was also completely cognizant my meeting could be cancelled, which would set me back significantly. However, if the party in question attempted to shove me aside, they’d learn quickly just how tenacious I was.
Laughter spilled from every corner of the street. Without realizing it, I’d managed to arrive on the day Greeks celebrated Labor Day. No wonder the city streets and shops were filled with people, celebrations ongoing. I’d watched a parade on a street from my hotel balcony. What better way to get a feel of the people and their town than by celebrating a national holiday with them?
