Per Beast, Castinetti has his hands in many different businesses, most of which are outside the law, including human trafficking, which makes my gut roil.

Where is Monroe? Did she fall victim to Castinetti’s disgusting behavior? If so, I’m not just looking for my sister, I’m going up against a dangerous crime boss.

Not that it matters, I will not stop until I bring her home, hopefully safe, and unharmed.

I know she’s young and fighting her demons whatever she imagines them to be but fuck me, couldn’t she find a less dangerous way to rebel?

My own fault I guess for introducing her to my friends and way of life, but it never occurred to me she would jump in balls deep.

Shit.

Now I have to find my sister, get back my girl and get Castinetti off our asses.

Ha! No problem.

I just hope when all is said and done that Minnie can forgive me. I didn’t know what I was missing until I found her. Now I’m not willing to let her go.

Chapter 42

Minnie

It’s after midnight when I step into my apartment and drop my purse on the table with a groan. My body aches after my struggle with Jordan and the long flight only exacerbated the pain.

I’m ready for a bath and to sleep in my own bed, which I’m finally coming to appreciate despite its lackluster facade.

“Min?”

“Fuck,” I gasp, whipping around and slapping against the wall until I hit the light.

When Lorri’s tear-streaked face greets me from where she’s sitting on her old bed, I grab my chest and bark, “What are you doing here?”

Fuck me but I’m not ready for more drama. Don’t I deserve to sleep?

“I’m-I’m in trouble,” she whispers, her chin wobbling.

“Yeah, no shit, Lorri. I’ve got skeevy fuckers all up my ass because of you,” I shout, waving my hand in the air.

When she covers her face and begins to sob, her thin shoulders shaking, my stomach sinks. I guess it’s a good thing she isn’t going to try and deny it.

Fuck me.

Still, my heart hurts at her pain and sitting down beside her, I grumble, “Are you even pregnant?”

Exhaling shakily, she says, “Y-Yes.”

“Is it Beast’s?”

“I don’t know.”

It’s on the tip of my tongue to lecture her but I bite it back. She’s never responded well to it before and frankly I’m tired of trying to be the voice of reason.

It’s too late now in any case.

“Lor—“

“What happened?” she says, studying my face.

Touching my mouth, I shiver. I’m not sure I will ever get Jordan’s ugly snarl out of my mind as he tried to suffocate me.
