“Look, those asshats may get on my last fucking nerve but they ain’t the type to hunt. You feel me?”

Wiping my eyes, I nod. I don’t disagree. Although Dixie was messaging these guys who may have been a part of the Hunter’s Club, I’ve found no evidence linking back to that as the reason she died. Maybe she spoke to them but in the end, I assume she had no idea that’s what they were doing.

Unless she ran into something she couldn’t talk her way out of.

“Please, just one more question,” I say.

“What?” he barks, his flashing eyes confirming his disapproval.

Join the club, it would seem I can’t please anyone these days.

Sighing, I push away from the table. “Do you know anyone from the club that I could speak to?”

He shakes his head, rasping, “Those boys stick together. They have to protect their own.”

“Have you heard of any of them? Mr. Goodlow, Ken Goodlow,” I blurt as he turns.

His jaw tics and I back away, whispering, “Thanks.”

Why do I get the feeling he knew exactly what I was speaking of?

He nods, dismissing me and I exit the diner, on numb legs.

Bone follows me to my car but before I can speak, he says, “Not here. Go.”

“Then where?” I ask but he’s already walking away.

What now?

Once I’m in my car, I stare blankly out the windshield as I drive away.

I don’t know where to go from here, but the specter of some psychopath looms over me regardless.

I’m so fucked.

Chapter 13

Penny

“Okay, explain,” Ramsay says, and all eyes turn to me.

With a sigh, I cross my arms and say, “I think someone is threatening me…us.”

I look to Maeve who meets my gaze with wide unblinking eyes. Here is the last place I want to be. Okay, that’s a lie but I still don’t know what possessed me to come straight here from meeting Hate.

I guess the excuse I’m using is Maeve’s safety. In all reality, I’m fucking scared.

“Who?” Diem growls and I shake my head.

“I don’t know.”

“How about you explain what you do know?” Ramsay says in his perfectly icy tone.

“How about you assholes tell me what this fucker is hiding?” I sneer, pointing at Oliver who shrugs.

Ramsay raises a single brow and I grit my teeth. “It’s time you all told me what the fuck you were doing with Dixie.”

“Come again?” Diem says while Oliver’s stare bores a hole in my skull.
