Chapter Thirteen
Maeve
Unfortunately, I don’t get far before Hailey’s in my face. She looks me up and down, her dark eyes glittering, and I sigh.
I’m in no mood for her and her ridiculousness. People are dead, bitch. Get your priorities straight.
Narrowing my eyes, visions of wiping that smile off her face run through my head, while I wait for it, and I don’t have to wait long.
“Hey bitch,” she says, raising a brow.
“What?” Pain shoots up my molars when I grind my teeth, but I have zero desire to fight her. I’m tired and she’s like a damn cockroach, nothing I do is going to make her go away.
“What’s the matter? Diem shoot you down? When are you gonna get it? He doesn’t do sloppy bitches.”
Ignoring the pit opening in my stomach, I drop my head, eyeing her smirk from the corner of my eye.
The thing about Hailey is she’s too stupid to have good sense because she never could see past her own greed.
But I use it to my advantage when I say through clenched teeth, “Fuck you.”
Her brows rise and she looks at me like she doesn’t know me. And she doesn’t because this Maeve is tired and ready to lash out at anyone who gets in my way.
She wants to bait me, bring it because I find that the last of my restraint has completely disappeared.
Her eyes take on a vicious gleam and I look to the ceiling, wishing for once that I didn’t have to fight my way through fucking everything.
“Really?” she says. “You’re a pathetic little bitch.”
“Amusing. But at least I’m not your fucking mother spreading her legs for the old fucks of this town. Do you shut your bedroom door when they go at it like animals? Or maybe you listen like a nasty bitch?”
I may be on the fringes, but I hear the gossip too. Besides, Oliver can’t hide everything those assholes get up to and I’m really good at being invisible when I want to be…I guess even when I don’t but whatever.
Her face goes pale before she flushes an unattractive shade of puce and sputters in my face, “That’s not fucking true!”
“Really? Well, maybe you should ask your fucking boyfriend? I bet if you suck his dick like mommy does, he’ll show you the videos.”
Diem tsks behind me but I ignore him, my eyes firmly focused on Hailey’s heated face. And when she swings at me with narrowed eyes, I smile cruelly, and grab her hand out of the air before pushing her to the floor.
If you had asked me yesterday if I’d be standing here now, I would have laughed but to my surprise, rage goes a long way in pushing me to behaviors I never thought possible…like forcing Hailey to the ground while she snivels and eyes Diem with a pathetic look.
Diem meets my stare, and something flickers behind his eyes before he sighs and steps away from his lean on the wall. “Enough.”
“Fuck you,” I spit, viciously pleased when Hailey cries out. For good measure, I twist my hand, wondering who the hell this person is, holding Hailey at bay.
Maybe I’m more like Ollie than I thought.
“Maeve,” Diem growls and smiling viciously, I grab her hair with my other hand and wrench her head back.
Ignoring her pathetic whimper, I say with a raised brow, “I’m sorry. Did you say something?”
His eyes narrow on mine, always calculating, always looking for the chink in my armor and I’d be foolish not to be wary, so I brace myself when he opens his mouth, but we’re both distracted by the sound of laughter coming from behind us.
Dropping Hailey’s pathetic fist, I back away while she pulls up from the floor and my dad rounds the corner.
“Maeve?” he says, looking between the three of us.
His brows furrow when he gets to Diem before he says, “I think everyone should get to class.”
