Is he talking about the same abandoned home where Dixie was found murdered?
Shit. Maybe it is this dude, Kenny. Hm.
“Do you know how I can find him?” I ask and Matt grabs my arm.
“Look, Maeve, Kenny isn’t someone you find. He finds you. I’d stay away from him if I was you.”
Nodding, I go to pull away from his firm grasp when he says, after glancing around, “And stay away from McCafferty, too.”
“Diem?” I say, raising my brows. I mean, I know he’s into bad shit but why is Matt telling me this now?
“Yeah. He’s not what you think.”
“Which is what?”
“He’s not safe, Maeve. None of them are. But Diem? He’s a fucking psycho,” he barks, and I flinch.
Wow. What the hell is his deal?
“Psycho? Matt, what are you saying?” I ask, searching his glittering gaze.
Where is this coming from?
Matt shrugs, leaning against the wall once more but he’s strung so tight, I can see the vein in his neck pulsing.
I’m about to push him to finish when he says, “You know he’s Frank McCafferty’s spawn, right? That dick does kinky shit with girls, you know?”
Kinky shit with girls. No, I don’t know but my skin crawls at the implication.
“How do you know?” I ask, crossing my arms.
I’ve known my entire life that Diem is affiliated. It’s no mystery considering our dads have been friends for years but even if I knew anything which, let’s face it I don’t, I wouldn’t admit it to Matt.
Is Matt saying that he’s dangerous? I know I’ve wondered since the shit with Patrick but having Matt of all people warn me, sits on my chest like a lead weight.
What does Diem do for his uncle?
“Jesus, Maeve. Paddy McCafferty is a crime boss. Like the real deal.”
“Okay. But Diem’s just one of us.”
He eyes me quietly before his lips pull into a soft smile and he says, “Yeah, whatever.”
Ignoring the pity, he isn’t bothering to hide, I say, “What’s your problem?”
I’m full up on attitude and Matt’s sneaky ass behavior is getting on my last nerve.
“Don’t have one. I shouldn’t be talking to you about this. Just stay away if you know what’s good for you.”
With that he stalks away, and I stare after him, bewildered. Obviously, Diem is no pussycat, but Matt’s intensity seems to speak to something more.
Why? And why did he specifically mention Uncle Frank?
It’s only later that I realize he never answered my question. How does Matt know what Frank gets up to?

Since Matt completely ghosted me and Harriet is getting shit faced in the kitchen with some dude, I step into the bathroom and wash my hands.
