Before he can speak, I say quickly, “I saw him the other night at Fight Club. He said he knew something about Kenny—“
“Kenny,” Diem roars, pounding the wheel.
Wide eyed, I reach out to him but he’s having none of it and recoils from my touch.
To my dismay, we roll down the long drive to Ramsay’s mansion. This is the last place I want to be. I just wanted a peaceful day with the man who finally, after years of bullshit, admitted he wants me.
Of course, it had to go haywire because what hasn’t since this tragic fucking tale began?
Diem slams on the breaks and we squeal to a stop before he puts the car in park and stares out the window. Eyeing his hands clenched around the wheel, I say quietly, “It happened so quick, but he thinks, I sort of made a, a deal with him.”
I never agreed with Skull, but the dick clearly isn’t taking no for an answer. Hopefully, Diem will know what to do though.
Diem whips around and I shudder under his gaze, his eyes so black the pupils have all but disappeared. “What kind of a deal?”
Licking my lips, I muster a wan smile. “It was an accident. I—“
“What kind of a deal, Maeve?” he asks, and I flinch away from his cold expression.
“Information on you,” I say, dropping my gaze.
The quiet that follows my statement chills my soul and when I finally have the guts to meet his gaze, he’s staring at me like I’m a stranger.
“Diem?” I whisper.
“Get out,” he rasps.
“Wh-what?”
“Get the fuck out of my car.”
Shakily I push the door open and once I’m free of the vehicle, he spins out in reverse and races from the driveway.
All the while, I stand and stare, my soul in pieces at my feet. What just happened?
“That went well,” Ollie says behind me.
“Fuck off,” I say on a sob.
“C’mon, Mae. You didn’t really think Diem would be your savior, did you?”
Spinning around, I poke him in the chest and hiss, “Like you have any room to talk. Did you really send Hailey for Penny in the parking lot?”
Ollie staggers back but I ignore him and enter the mansion, marching up the steps to Diem’s room. And that’s where I stay, falling asleep in the bed but Diem never returns.

In the morning, I find Ramsay and Willow sitting at the table. She’s slumped over a cup of coffee while Ramsay flips through something on his iPad.
“Morning,” he says, and I nod before collapsing beside Willow. I haven’t seen her since the incident that everyone alluded to but would never tell me.
She looks good though, refreshed which I eye with envy when she glances at me through one eye, before taking a slurp of her coffee. “Okay. Lay it on me,” she says.
“Huh?” I ask, my cheeks burning.
“Diem. You. Yesterday.”
“Oh.” Exhaling quietly, I spin the pepper shaker between my fingers. “Diem’s mad at me.”
