We were just going on autopilot by now, game-wise anyway. I didn’t think there had ever been a time in history when anyone had played as many rounds of Go Fish as we had. It was far from my favorite game, but I was going to play until time was up.

Stopping meant I might have to leave.

And I wasn’t ready for that.

Would it be weird to ask him out?

I was pretty sure he was interested. But also, I was asking out an orc—not the human side of him—and that could mess with his head a little bit.

People liked to be liked for who they were, not their job or hobby.

I was just some random dude who showed up to hang out with orc cosplayers. There’d be no way he’d think my desires were genuine.

Or…would he?

Thrain picked up a card and plopped a pair down, and I did the same, but my mind wasn’t on the cards.

It was on the fact that, far too soon, the day would be over.

And if I wasn’t careful, I’d never see this man again.

And I was deciding I was not okay with that.

Chapter Eight

Thrain

Lucas had to be bored. Had to be. I knew I was bored to death—of the game, at least. An orc, a human, any living being could only play so many rounds without driving themselves mad.

I’d moved the entire table of snacks and food closer to the small table we played on so it would be easier for him to eat.

In the hours we’d been here, no one else had shown up and while I’d hoped for a good turnout before, now I couldn’t give a shit. My mate sat across from me.

My stomach twisted, thinking that any moment Lucas would call this whole visit a bust and leave.

There had to be a way to make him stay.

“I win,” he said, flashing me that gorgeous smile again.

“You’re really good at this.”

His dimples grew deeper as I gathered all the cards up. “I usually suck at games but…I think you’re just really bad at it.” A giggle erupted from him and even though he was poking fun at me, it made my chest warm. What it would feel like to whisper something while I pumped inside him and made him laugh like that again. A sexy sound in the middle of the night.

“Maybe so. I, um, I only have this place rented until five, so I’d better get everything cleaned up.”

I expected him to leave. He was a guest here, a paid ticketholder, but instead, I watched him gather things and start to throw trash away.

“Lucas, you don’t have to do that. It’s my responsibility.”

“It’s okay. I don’t mind helping. I’m…I’m not ready to leave yet.”

That one statement made my cock bounce against my loincloth and I let out a growl. “Sorry. I wasn’t growling at you.”

The omega shrugged one shoulder. “I didn’t know orcs growled.”

“Only sometimes.” Mostly in the presence of our mates.

“That’s interesting. I didn’t know that. I read a lot of orc books but they are mostly romance.”
