“Okay, I might’ve been a little irritated you were speaking with a beautiful woman,” I admit.

He looks at me with shock. “Don’t you realize I don’t see any other woman but you?” He says this with such sincerity I believe him.

“I’m ready for you to take me home now,” I huskily tell him. His eyes flare.

“Your wish is my command,” he says with a wicked smile. Excitement builds in my stomach. I hold tight to his hand as we find the gallery owner and say goodbye before we sneak away.

We barely make small talk on the way home as both of us are quite breathless. It was our first official date, and it was absolutely perfect.

We arrive home and rush to the bedroom where we barely manage to get our clothes off before coming together. It’s perfect, as it always is with him. When we’re done, we cuddle together, not willing to let each other go. Our lives are perfect, and I hope our bubble never bursts.

Chapter Forty-Three

Chloe

Rubbing my temple as I let out a sigh while staring at my screen, I’m counting down the hours until the end of the day, which is unusual. I love my job so I’m never in a hurry to leave, but Mason says he has something special planned for later tonight so my mind is far more on him than on work today.

“Oh my gosh, this spreadsheet is driving me crazy,” I say as I lean back and look over at Dell.

“Wanna quit?” Dell asks with a laugh as he scoots his chair back and spins.

“I’d never leave you,” I tell him with a laugh.

“That’s because we’re awesome and you couldn’t survive without us,” Dell says.

Jenny shows up and leans against my desk. “Yep, you’re part of the team now. Once we accept you, there’s no chance you can leave. We’d have to train a new person, and that takes too much energy.”

“Yep, you were kind of mean at first,” I tell them, which makes them laugh.

“We had to make sure you were tough enough to hang,” Dell says.

“I’ve certainly grown stronger working here,” I tell them as I flex my arm, which has some beautiful new muscles. “Both mentally and physically.”

“Hell yeah. You’re hot as hell,” Jenny says.

“I wouldn’t go that far, but the amazing free gym has helped my confidence for sure.”

“My wife keeps telling me I should use the gym,” Dell says as he pats his stomach and laughs. “I tell her I’m in too big of a hurry to get home to her. She’s not impressed.”

“We could all plan a nice long vacation to a sunny place. That would motivate all of us to work out a little more,” I suggest.

“Oh, I’m up for a vacation,” Jenny pipes in.

“I’m game. I know my wife would be all-in on a tropical place,” Dell says.

“If we could manage to talk Mason into it, we could make it a work event and have the company pay,” Jenny says with a waggle of her brows.

“Let’s start researching tropical places that need our magical skills,” I suggest.

“I’m on it,” Dell says as he looks at his computer.

“We’re all work addicts anyway and would most likely want to do some work on vacation,” Jenny says.

“I have a life outside of work,” I tell them.

Dell laughs. “You work more late hours than any of us,” he reminds me. Of course, they don’t know that some of these after-hour times aren’t focused on work at all, but have a heck of lot more to do with the boss. I can’t believe we’ve managed to keep our relationship a secret for well over a year now.

“I love my job,” I say with no apology.
