“Thanks. Maybe.” It was getting late, but I was off the next day. “Maybe you could meet me out there?”

“That sounds like a plan. Twenty minutes?”

I nodded and started searching for some trunks. The pair I’d worn to the party had been returned to Andy, so my orange trunks would have to do. I was more comfortable in them anyway. I skipped the T-shirt, thinking I’d be jumping right in. I walked out the middle door straight to the pool. It was only a few steps away. It was freshly tiled and filled and looked incredibly inviting, even for a late-December evening.

As I got in, the lights around the place came on, and behind them stood Rourke, wearing trunks that hit mid-thigh, anddamn, his legs looked good—thick and muscular. Could I get a hard-on in this cold water? My dick was certainly trying.

“Hey, Colin.” He waved and then dove in on the other side of the pool. He swam toward me underwater. I waded out to waist-deep water before he popped up next to me. “So glad they finished this before you moved in. It was a process.”

“Mmm…Me too. I guess.”

“I like these on you. They’re better than what you wore before. I mean, you were sexy in those tight little briefs, but these feel more like you.”

“Yeah. That’s true. I was trying to…I don’t know.”

“Show off the assets?”

I felt the blush in my cheeks. “Something like that.”

“I get it. It’s fine. Hey, let’s get some noodles and float around.” He walked up the pool steps before I had a chance to answer and dug through a large storage trunk on the side of the house. He came back, tossing blue and red pool noodles into the water. I grabbed the closest, red, and wrapped my arms around it.

Rourke leaned back on the blue one and kicked into the deep end. “Come on.”

I followed, completely unsure of what we were doing. “I really feel out of my league here. You sure you want me to stay?”

“Yes, of course. And don’t feel bad. Everyone has to start somewhere, and without other people giving me a chance throughout my life, I wouldn’t be here either. Okay?”

Guess that was supposed to make me feel better. “So, you’re what? Like, paying it forward or something?”

“Or something.” He splashed me. “I do have ulterior motives. I’m not innocently putting my neck out for you.”

And there it was. He wanted to fuck me. I sighed.

“Colin…I mean, I want to get to know you. And see you succeed. I think you have potential for whatever you want to do.”

“I’d have to know what that was first. I don’t know how you can see potential when I don’t.”

“That’s a problem. You’re a great person. So, look. Let’s skip over to the get-to-know-you stuff, okay?”

“Sure. But it works both ways, right? I mean, whatever you ask me, you have to answer back.”

“Fairs fair.” He kicked his feet, paddling closer. “You can ask questions too, but same rules. Deal?”

“Deal.” That meant don’t ask what I didn’t want to answer myself. I could do this. “First question?”

Rourke smiled. “What kinds of things do you like? Hobbies? I’m guessing you read, but what?”

“Yeah, I read. High fantasy, mostly. Some adventure stuff. Clancy, if I’ve got nothing else. What about you?”

“I don’t read much for fun. I read stock reports and perspectives, but that’s work.”

“Then what do you do for fun?”

“When I’m not going to clubs, mostly Afterglow, I watch movies.”

“I have two questions.”

“Ask.”
