“Don’t worry. We saved the documents.” His voice cut through the suffocating stillness, steady and calm, a lifeline in the storm building inside me. “Natalia?” His voice was lower this time;closer.
The air shifted, the faint sound of his movement reaching me.
He was close – too close.
I could feel his presence even without opening my eyes to see him, the warmth of his body brushing against the cold void around me. His hand found the small of my back, his touch steady, yet unnervingly intimate as he pulled the side of my body into him.
“Breathe,” He murmured, his tone softer still.
I wanted to snap at him. To push him away. But I couldn’t summon the words. His touch wasn’t frightening like the dark – it was safe, a weight that kept me grounded.
“Just breathe. You’re okay.”
I did.
And I was.
Several moments passed as I managed to ease the frown off my face and slowly open my eyes. My shoulders dropped along with my heartbeat when I could see clearly around me, since my eyes had adjusted to the dark.
Then my heartbeat skyrocketed when I remembered Trevor was touching me. Holding me.Grounding me.
He hadn’t moved away. He’d leaned in closer, the scent of his cologne clouding my thoughts.
“Are you scared of the dark, Natalia?” His murmur was low enough to send liquid fire through my veins, his breath warm against my temple.
I didn’t answer; couldn’t.
A low chuckle. “Baby, you’re worried about the wrong thing.”
The silence after his words was suffocating.
I glanced up, meeting his onyx eyes. The darkness in the room, compared to the abyss of his irises, now seemed so much lighter.
“You should be more scared of who’s standing next to you.” His words hung between us.Heavy. Loaded.
I swallowed hard, my thoughts spinning in every direction, yet all of them centering him. The warmth of his touch on my lower back, as he pressed me into his hard abdomen, seeped into me, a crystal contrast to the cold fear clawing at the corners of my mind.
The anxiety didn’t vanish – it still curled in my stomach, sharp and insistent – but the weight of it lifted, just slightly.Just enough.
“Areyou…” His hand left my lower back, instead sliding up my spine, and leaving goosebumps behind. “Scared of me,amai?”
My heart thundered in my chest as I let out a shaky breath. “I’m scared of what might happen…”
“Between us?” He pressed, his rough hand reaching my shoulder and dragging across my collarbone before sliding up and wrapping around my throat in a dominating hold. “When no one’s watching?”
His grip squeezed my throat, forcing me to press my thighs together.
My gaze dropped to his mouth. “Yeah…”
An amused breath left him, fanning across my parted lips. “Baby, it’sbeenhappening.”
His mouth pressed against mine in apossessive, slow, wet kissthat made my knees weak and my panties drenched. His lips parted mine, kissing medeeper. His tongue swiped against mine and fireworks exploded behind my eyes.
I matched his rhythm, following his lead. Bringing my hands up and setting them on the sides of his neck, I pressed my soft body against his rock-hard one.
A whimper left me when Trevor’s hand moved into my hair, fisting it messily. My hands settled on his muscular chest before lowering all the way to his belt, then back up, under his white T-shirt.
My heart dropped like a weight between my thighs when I felt his muscles. The defined outline of his six-pack driving me insane.I wanted to ride them.
