“Was I? Or were you just stupid enough to believe a simple brotherly act was romantic?”
I smacked my gun over his face, turning it sideways. His jaw clicked with rage, before he looked back at me and stood eye-to-eye with me, my gun still pressed into his cheek.
“Youplanted the fucking information on her laptop.Youmade me fucking believe you two were in love.Youmade me believe she used me. You don’t get to put this shit on me.” The muzzle of my gun pressed into his temple. “Even her sister, Carmen, thought you were in love with her.”
A dark smirk upturned his lips. “That what she said?”
I turned away from the dickhead, putting my gun away and rotating my jaw to try to relax. “You don’t have feelings for Natalia?”
“Never did,” Gìovanni replied sarcastically, with a fake smile, sitting back down. “Sorry to disappoint.”
Confusion worked its way through my head.
I’d come here prepared to kill him if he tried taking Natalia away from me after everything.
“Did you come all the way across town just to gloat?”
I ran my tongue over my teeth, taking a seat across from him. “I want to know why.”
“Why what?”
“Why did you do it.”
The asshole had the audacity to scoff, a shit-eating grin on his face. “Fucking with you was merely payback.”
“For what?”
Gìovanni leaned over the desk, fingers interlocked, his eyes setting like the sun. “Maybe you got too close to something of mine first.”
I stared at him for several moments before the frown on my face melted with understanding. I scoffed before falling into a full-on laugh. “Fuck, you really are a psychopath.”
He shrugged, backing off. “So I’ve been told.”
Hitting my hands on the desk, I stood. “I’m guessing telling you to stay away from Natalia won’t be necessary, then?”
“Won’t be a problem anymore.”
On my way out, I stopped by the door, meeting his eyes for the last time. “Buy her flowers again, I’ll fucking kill you.”
Gìovanni leaned back in his chair. “Giveherweed again, I’ll burn you alive.”
Chapter 42
22 years old
Closing Natalia’s bedroom door behind me with a soft click, I made my way down the dark hallway, heading back towards Carmen’s birthday party.
I didn’t last five minutes alone at the bar before a voice bothered me.
“What are you doing here, Mr Su?”
I didn’t turn to look, as I drank from my tumbler. “Mr Salvatore… My sister and your daughter are best friends. I’m here as Kali’s guard.”
“That’s all you’re doing here?”
Finally, I looked to the side, meeting his hard face. “Yes, sir.”
He grunted in agreement, though I could tell he was still not buying it. “You’re a smart, young man, Trevor. I’m sure you understand my daughters will marry Italian men, yes?” He watched me sternly, waiting for my reaction.
