I scanned the room, looking for Zach. I knew he’d gotten here hours ago to grill Maria with questions.

I’d never seen him take longer than a few hours to carry a hit through.

I didn’t know what his plan was with her anymore but it had already been almost two months since he’d found out who shereallywas – the assassin that almost took him out a couple years back in Mexico.

If I didn’t know any better I would’ve thought he was in love with the girl.

Too bad the only thing his heart was big enough for, was the Cartel and basketball.

For a moment, my words rang true. Zach was on a couch on the other side of the room, talking with Tony – girls all around them.

But then, he turned his face away from the girl trying to climb him, pushing her off unapologetically. The blonde didn’t care; simply moved on to Tony, who already had two other girls on his lap and welcomed her happily.

I snarled. Not in the mood for that guy.

The crowd thickened as I moved further in, and my instincts sharpened. Too many people, too many variables.

I was by the edge of the dancefloor when I saw her.

Last time I’d seen her, had been her a couple of weeks ago; each too busy working on their own side of the job. And me needing to clear my head of her pretty brown eyes and soft hair.

The first thing I noticed was her dress, baby pink latex and short, the kind that clung to her in a way that made it impossible not to look. She was dancing, her body moving in time with the music.

Someone moved from my view and my eyes zeroed in on her hands resting lightly on the chest of a guy.

I stopped in my tracks.

His hands on her hips, far too comfortable. He leaned in, close enough to speak directly into her ear.

My muscles tensed with a dark, illogical possessiveness.

I wasn’t stupid enough to think I had any claim over her anymore.

But there was something about the way she danced, like she was completely at ease, that chipped away at the control I’d built around her.

Natalia didn’t do casual. She didn’t let her guard down.

Except with me.

Or so I thought.

My hands flexed at my side, and my mind blanked.

I closed the distance in a matter of seconds, blood roaring in my ears louder than the music. Pushing through the crowd, my eyes stayed locked on her. And when I reached her, I didn’t hesitate.

My hand shot out, shoving the guy back hard enough to make him stumble. “Get lost,” I growled, my voice low and sharp.

I recognized him as one of Cosa Nostra’s men.

If I didn’t kill him, Salvatore surely would.

He straightened, confused and angry, but one look at my face wiped whatever argument he was about to make. He raised his hands and backed away, disappearing into the crowd without a word.Smart guy.

Natalia spun around, her expression a mix of shock and fury. “What the hell, Trevor?!”

Her eyes blazed, and for a second, I almost felt bad.Almost.

“We need to talk.”
