Shifting in her seat, Kenzie winced at the soreness even as she fought a surprising mix of arousal and embarrassment as the plug shifted in her bottom and reminded her of its presence.

I will not…

Why were they making her do this? It was just vegetables! She’d been avoiding them for a long time, and she wasfine!

I will not…

So what if she’d had more energy and less allergies and sniffles since spending all her time here and being forced to eat the stupid vegetables.

I will not…

It didn’t prove anything. Did it?

I will not…

Okay, so the carbs and stuff messed with her tummy sometimes, but it wasn’tthatbad.

I will not…

And maybe eating too much of the things she loved had made her super sick on occasion… Crap…

“How’s it coming, princess?”

Kenzie couldn’t stop the groan that escaped her if she tried, “Stupid lines. Do I really have to write one hundred trillion of them?”

Papi’s chuckle did not amuse her. At all. She narrowly avoided sticking her tongue out at him. That would not turn out well for her still-burning bottom.

“I said one hundred, little girl. Not one hundredtrillion.”

“Same difference.”

Papi laughed long and loud as he walked away.

Well, at leasthe’samused.

Some of Kenzie’s anger faded, however, when Papi returned and draped a soft blanket over her shoulders a few minutes later. They really did care about her and really did just want the best for her. Maybe it really was better to let them take care of her. Even if itdidmean eating icky veggies.

I can do it. As long as they don’t ever ask me tolikeveggies.

Chapter Nineteen

Kenzie

“Belinda Rossi! No running!”

Kenzie was sure her mouth hung open as wide as River’s did when Damon Rossi’s voice rang through the communal playroom of Little Hearts Club. Sebastian stopped in his tracks much as Belinda did. But while Sebastian looked at Damon with some sort of secret smile, Belinda was calling over her shoulder, “Sorry, Daddy! I was excited.”

“Did he just say‘Belinda Rossi’?” River asked once their jaw had finally closed.

“That’s what I heard,” Beau confirmed. “Iknewsomething was going on with them in Vegas.”

“It’s been a lot longer than just since we went to the wedding. That man has been obsessed with her since I joined the club at least,” Papi added.

“Oh, he’s been into her since the club opened,” River said, their voice pitching a bit higher in their excitement. “It’s Belinda everyone is shocked about. She’s avoided him like the plague for about five years now.”

“Let’s go see what happened!” Kenzie tugged on Beau and River’s hands as she spoke, urging them to join the group that Belinda had been rushing toward. It was actually where they’d already be if they hadn’t been a bit later than expected because River’s car wouldn’t start and they’d gone to pick her friend up so River wouldn’t have to miss the fun.

Papi just waved them on with an indulgent smile and made his way to the area where the Bigs liked to visit while they watched their Little ones play. When Daddy reached over and hitched Kenzie onto one hip, carrying her to their destination, River released Kenzie’s hand and stepped back. Kenzie worried for a moment that her friend might be feeling like a third wheel, but before she could mention anything their voice rang out in an old familiar tune.
