I crawl up her body and place my cock at her entrance. Without taking my eyes off hers, I slowly slide into her cunt, my mating fluid easing the way. A groan rumbles up from my chest at how tightly she squeezes me. Once I am as deep inside her as I can get, I hold myself still and savor the feel of her warmth sheath wrapped around me.
Zara strokes my face. “I love you. I’m not just saying that because of the sex either. I mean, it’s great and all—amazing, in fact—but that’s not why I’m saying it. I can’t not say it. Kyler, you’re everything I never knew I wanted in a husband. In a mate. Thank you for showing me what true and unconditional love feels like. And for teaching me how to love you back.”
“Mykeeshla. You have made me the happiest male on Tavikh. My soul light shines only for you and will continue to do so long after I pass into the lands of the goddess.”
Zara rises up and claims my mouth with a kiss. I swipe my tongue inside and my cock mimics the movement. My pace increases and I go deeper with each thrust. I can feel my release coming and I do not know how to stop it. Needing my mate to reach her peak again before I do, I reach between us and circle that sensitive nub the way I discovered she loves the most.
Soon Zara’s pleasure swells and crests again and she cries out my name. That is all it takes to trigger my own release. My seed explodes from my cock and fills her up. I say a prayer to Deeka that it takes and soon her belly will swell with my kit. Exhausted, I collapse on top of her, doing my best to keep most of my weight off. She clutches me tighter and I sink deeper against her.
“I am too heavy for you.” I try to push myself up, but Zara will not let me go.
“No, you’re not. Just lie here for a little bit.”
Careful not to hurt her, I remain where I am as she strokes her fingertips up and down my back and our breathing slows. My cock softens within her and finally she shifts and loosens her hold on me. I roll and bring her with me so she lies on my chest. We are still connected in the most intimate way. Peace settles in my heart and my soul light still glows with warmth.
Zara turns her head so her cheek is pressed against me and her breath glides across my flesh. My arms hold her and my tail loops around her leg. She breathes out a soft sigh.
“When I was with the Njeri and unconscious most of the time, I talked to Amelia,” she says quietly. “It kept the insanity away.Which probably doesn’t make any sense, considering it sounds insane that I was talking to a dead person. Even worse that she actually answered me back.”
I let my fingers glide up and down Zara’s back now. “I do not think it sounds insane. There were times right after the death of my baba and nene that I spoke with them and they with me. It brought me great comfort for a short time.”
She lifts her head and brings her hands beneath her chin and rests it on them.
“I tried escaping a few times and I never made it easy on them. It’s why that dickhead hit me so often and then tied me up. Well, also because I kicked him in the balls, and god it felt good.” Zara chuckles and then sobers. “The last time I talked to Amelia she told me to please stop fighting back. I said something really shitty to her, but she forgave me because that’s the kind of person she was. Never held a grudge or had anything bad to say about anyone.”
“Did she tell you why she wanted you to stop fighting?”
Zara murmurs an assent. “Her exact words were ‘because he’s coming’. When I saw your mating marks for the first time, I thought I was hallucinating. I didn’t think that they were because of me. Until you almost called mekeeshla. I asked myself if you were who she meant when she said ‘he’s coming’. Do you know when Iknewit was you?”
I shake my head.
“When we were walking back to the village tonight from the Bohnari ship after my arm had been healed,” Zara says. “The whole time I was lying in that machine, not once did you leave my side. You stayed there watching over me, and then, when itwas finished, the way you stepped in front of Vornak and made sure his machine had done its job and healed me, I was pretty certain. But the absolute rightness of it hit me while we walked. I almost swore I could hear Lia whisper “Told you so” in my ear.”
“Your sister was right. You are the other half of my soul. Mykeeshla. My fated mate and the female Deeka blessed me with. No matter what happens, I will always come for you.”
Zara scoots up and kisses me. It starts out gently, but soon turns into a fiery passion that will never be extinguished. I roll again so she is beneath me once more and without words I show her my love for her until the sun rises and we both fall asleep in each other’s arms.
Chapter 21
Zara
I quickly wash up and put on some clean clothes, my body aching in all the good ways after the most perfect night of my life. The village is teeming with activity as the sounds filter through the hide of my tent. Kyler and I slept half the morning away, as did a quarter of the village, I suspect. I know everyone has tended to sleep in the mornings after celebrations, usually nursing a headache from the wicked strong brew and heading to the healer’s tent for some relief. It’s why my mate is absent, although I’m about to go meet him.
Even though Kyler left not that long ago, I already miss him. God, I’m turning into a needy bitch. Except that I find I don’t care. For the first time in my life, I’m not only in love, but that person loves me back. I plan on soaking up my man’s affection every day for the rest of my life. I have a lot of missed love to make up for.
After running the brush through my hair, I leave my tent and head out to meet my mate. I’ll miss this place a little when I’mgone. It’s been my home for five months. It’s where my best friends—sisters—and I lived together, even if it wasn’t for very long. It’s where I finally, for the first time in my life, started believing I was more than I’d been led to believe about myself. I feel like I’ve grown so much in not just this tent, but in this village. Surrounding by people who’ve shown me what family is truly about.
Tribespeople—both Tavikhi and human—nod or wave in greeting, and I smile and wave back. There’s no sign of any Bohnari yet, but they probably all slept in their ship. I recall either Remi or London saying they stay a couple nights before heading back to Bohna. I’m glad Eloise will get another day with Johnna. It’s crazy they landed on neighboring planetsandboth found a mate on that planet. Too bad they don’t know what happened to their other two friends. Hopefully they made out as well as Eloise and Johnna did.
The healer’s tent comes into view and my pace quickens. I step inside and my gaze zeroes in on Kyler who stands next to one of the raised platforms talking to Rojtar, who’s sitting up and alert. A quick scan confirms he’s the only wounded warrior that remains. The rest have all been cleared to leave for their own dwellings.
I’m so glad to see he’s doing better. On our second night on this planet all those months ago when the Krijese—who at the time had been Tavikhi enemies—attacked the human settlement, Rojtar helped us escape. He’s one of the youngest warriors—early-to-mid-twenties, I think—and one of the sweetest. I know how much he wants a mate, too, so I hope he finds one, one of these days.
As though sensing my eyes on him, Kyler turns and spots me. I give him a small wave. His mating marks darken and a flashof light shines from his pupils. An answering heat warms the inside of my chest, and I know it’s the other half of his soul light. I’m still getting used to not only the sensation, but the fact that the phenomenon occurs in the first place. I mean, before it happened to me, I never would have believed that an alien race could literally share a part of their soul with another person.
“You should be able to return to your own tent tomorrow,” Kyler tells Rojtar. “But you will need to wait a few more turns before it is safe to spar again. Even light training. You do not want to re-injure yourself.”
I press my lips together to fight the smile that threatens at the disgruntled look Rojtar sends my mate. I’m sure it can’t be easy for him to be laid up in bed recovering, but from what I understand, he nearly died. Kyler raises one of his brow bones until finally the young warrior nods. He claps Rojtar on the shoulder and joins me on the far side of the tent.
