I point at the glass. “What was in there?”
“Blood.”
“Why did you give me blood?” My voice is shrill when I speak in a hurried tone.
“Our friend, Cillian, is a vampire. He came here to check on you when I told him what happened.”
“What did happen?”
Kashton calmly explains to me that Grey tried to turn me into a vampire. “When I got to you, I didn’t know what to do. My instincts told me to bite you. So I did.” He rubs his hands over his face. He looks exhausted. Dark circles under his eyes. A heaviness in the slump of his shoulders.
He meets my gaze again. “Before you shifted into a dragon, your vampire fangs grew in and shortly after that you shifted. Cillian thinks that instead of one overriding the other, you’re burdened with both.”
“I’m a dragon shifter and a vampire?”
Kash shakes his head. “I had no idea this would happen. I shouldn’t have bitten you without knowing the consequences. I could’ve killed you for all I know.”
I let out my own sigh as I try to process what he just told me.
“Will I have to drink blood now? Like all the time?”
“We think so. We weren’t sure. We still aren’t. This, as far as we know, has never happened before.”
I glance at the empty glass with the red remnants in it. “What does being a vampire mean?”
“I’ll introduce you to Cillian and he’ll happily answer any questions you might have. He’s also offered to be on call for you until you get everything figured out. There are things vampires can do that dragons cannot. We don’t know what to expect with any of this.”
“What about us?” I ask. “How does this affect us?”
“It doesn’t as far as I’m concerned. Our mating bond is completed. I hope you don’t feel like I claimed you without your permission.”
I shake my head vehemently. “I wanted you to claim me. When I bit you it was the most erotic, amazing feeling I’d ever experienced. I’m just sorry I don’t remember you biting me.”
He gives me a small smile. “I promise to reenact it when you’re feeling up to it.”
I blush a little.
“You should get some rest, my goddess.”
“What’s happening out there?” I ask.
“The US government has shut down the Las Vegas airport. Mayor Smith is acting like our negotiator. There’s also been breaking news about humans learning who all the vampires are, including Grey. They’ve got him up on the television screen like he’s public enemy number one. What did you do?”
“Raphael,” I say as I remember him on the roof, furious with me.
“He’s alive. So is his brother. The FBI found him first. They didn’t know he was fae, just a victim of Grey’s. Raphael has him. He’s also taken a few slugs from me when I learned he watched Grey turn you into a vampire.”
“He thought I got his brother killed. I get it.”
Kashton shakes his head. “No. There’s nothing to get.” He’s furious and he’s allowed to be.
I sigh and try to get more information. “So what’s going on with Las Vegas.”
“Downtown is ours for now. The US military has set up a wall of sorts around the city so no one can get in. Of course, we’re shipping in shifters, fae, witches, and whoever else needs sanctuary for the time being.”
There’s another knock at the door.
Kash sets a pair of yoga pants and a tank top on the bed for me. I get up and get dressed while he deals with whoever is at the door.
