It’s a good thing, wouldn’t you say? Pru nearly hit the ground. It might not have killed her, but the rain of bullets that would inevitably follow would definitely kill her.
I shift my focus and reach out to the wounded dragon.Pru?
I’m alive, but I’m done with this fight. I’m going to try and shift back.Pru’s voice is strained, but strong.
Not here,I say.Let’s get you back to the Lair. Athena can help you.
Pru shifts into her human form.
I’ve got her, you get back to the battle, Jasmine says as she lifts from the rooftop and picks up Pru gingerly, heading back over to our hotel.
I’ve got to take out those damn tanks.
Gavin? He’s on the far side of the strip. If he knows that Pru is hurt, he’ll lose his focus. I have to keep him distracted. We need all the firepower on our side we can manage.
Yeah?
Let’s grab one of those tanks and drop it from high.
That sounds like fun.
Gavin and I circle one of the tanks, it goes to aim and we both dive right for it. We grab it on either side and lift off into the air.
Fuck this thing is heavy,Gavin complains.
We slowly climb up and up into the air. I feel a few bullets ricochet off my scales. Hurts like a bitch, but no major damage.
The hatch of the tank opens and a man appears pulling his gun up to aim at me.
Too late, dude.
We’re already higher than the Stratosphere. We drop it before the guy has a chance to get a shot off. The tank lands with a crash, the thing coming apart in the process, the guy getting crushed.
That was effective, shall we do it again?
I’m about to tell Gavin we should definitely do that again, but it’s too late though, there are three dragons on the next tank over.
This may not be the best way to make peace with the humans, but these guys were never going to settle for peace. They didn’t come armed to the teeth under the influence of Grey to peacefully disembark because we told them to. Grey wants a war. He wants to show the world just how scary we all are and I guess we need to do that so they stop trying to mess with us.
Gavin and I soar over the strip looking for our next target.
I spot another tank that’s on the sidewalk chewing up the concrete and any structures in its path. There’s a wake of destruction behind it. Gavin and I nose dive right after it. It gets off a shot before we’re able to lift it into the air. The shell hits its target directly in front. It’s then that I see wolves have scattered across the street, narrowly escaping the shell’s detonation.
We aren’t fighting alone. There are wolf shifters out here too. There might be others, but I have to focus on the humans.
Gavin and I fly up with the tank. Just as we’re a couple of stories up, the tank fires off another shot. The kick from the tank firing causes me and Gavin to lose our grip on it. The tank slams into the ground, taking me and Gavin with it but not hard enough to damage it too much or us for that matter.
The tank nose rotates around. I flail to get back up into the air. It fires before I can lift off. I shift into my human form hoping to avoid the shell coming at my face. The shell narrowly misses my head and slams into the brick building behind me. I’m buried under the brick in seconds. I quickly shift again, the rubble bouncing off my giant form.
I swipe my tail into the tank, swinging the canon around. Gavin lifts the tank in his dragon form and tips it onto its side.
A roar from down the street catches my attention and I see a dragon on the ground surrounded by people unloading a ton of ammunition rounds at her.
Gavin! I charge toward the dragon in need and my wings pick up enough lift to help me glide over all the debris and rubble. Before I can reach her, a shell from another tank slams into me. I hit the street hard and skid across it into the Eiffel Tower, which topples over right on top of me.
Something sharp jabs me right in the thigh and the top of the tower holds me down as more rubble and debris fall on top of me.
Shit. Shit. Shit. I’m a sitting duck if I don’t get up. I scramble to pull myself out from under the weight of the debris, but I can’t lift it. I contemplate shifting into my human form, but that could end up making my situation worse. I pull my legs under me and try to use my wings to help lift the steel off my back, but it just causes more debris to fall down on me.
