Did Kash fall asleep? How is he not breaking down the door at this point?

“If you’re wondering about your boyfriend in there, I’ve masked this room so he can’t hear anything.”

I make a note of that ability and surge forward. “Are you going to try and take me? What do you want from me?”

“You think I’m just going to tell you everything?” he asks with a bemused smirk on his stupid face.

“It was worth a shot,” I say.

It’s then that I see my locket sitting on the bed. I reach down, grab it, pulling it on over my head. When the silver hits my chest, warmth radiates from it and spreads throughout my body instantly making me feel better.

“Where did you get that?”

“From a friend,” I say.

His eyes zero in on it. I’m sure it has nothing to do with my ample cleavage so much as what’s in the locket. Maybe he can sense it. I still can’t believe I’ve had his heartstone this whole time.

“Do you really want to be with these half-breed freaks?”

“Half-breed freaks? What are you talking about?”

“Shifters and vampires are disgusting. They’re half human and half magic. Humans don’t deserve any magic.”

“What are fae?”

“We come from another dimension. There’s no human blood muddying up my bloodlines.”

“Good for you. I happen to like humans. Most of them, anyway.” Irritation prickles at me more than fear right now. “Those half-breeds have been better to me than you.”

“I’ve done nothing to you,” he says.

I scoff, “Nothing? You’ve broken into my house, my hotel room, and you’re everywhere I go lately. You’re at best a stalker ex-boyfriend, but I’m willing to bet there is something far more sinister going on. Are you working with Grey?”

He flinches ever so slightly. It’s so small most people wouldn’t have caught it, but I did. I’ve been around him enough to know when he’s caught off guard or unhappy about something.

“Grey?” he asks.

I shake my head at him and laugh. “Uh, no. Not buying it. I know your tells, Raphael. You’re not at all as mysterious as you like to think you are. You’re working with Grey. I’m guessing because you like what he’s attempting to do. Get rid of the half-breeds, enslave and eat humanity, and then Earth is your oyster to do whatever you want with the humans, with the land.”

“And if you’re right?”

“Then I guess it’s up to me to try and stop you.”

He opens his arms like he’s looking for a hug or gesturing for me to try and come at him.

“You’re here for a reason, so what is it?”

“Athena?” Kash’s voice sounds like he’s at the end of a tunnel, not in the room next door.

Raphael gets an irritated look on his face. He rolls his eyes. “All your little dragon friends are in danger. You should come to the winning team. I had fun with you, Athena. You were a good fuck. You’re one of the more intelligent humans I’ve met.”

“Fuck off, Raphael. You’re not my type. I don’t like bigoted assholes. Better luck next time.”

“Bigoted?” He snorts a little as he laughs, and it’s still enduring. Ugh. He’s so annoying.

“Half-breeds. Those are bigot words.”

“I suppose you’re right and I am. It doesn’t make me a bad person.”
